In the latest #CulturalHeritage Collections blog post we take a closer look at the variety of beautifully designed bookbinders' tickets & booksellers' labels -from NYC to Wexford!- which can be found within the collections. ucdculturalheritagecollections.com/2025/02/25/t... @ucdarchives.bsky.social

If you have a device that CAN run Apple Intelligence you need to turn this off as well as the general Apple Intelligence setting. Settings > Screen Time > scroll down to Content and Privacy > turn on Restrictions > Intelligence and Siri > turn off the first three options

Tickled to receive this as both an author and librarian 📚

Printmakers are some of the best people 🫶

A blue sky in Dublin has brought back a favourite visitor! ☀️

This is a long shot, but does anyone have access to Dominique Lobstein’s “Dictionnaire des indépendants, 1884 - 1914” and be willing to check an artist for me?! Can pay back with anything from the NCAD Library 📚📜🎨

✨ "With Sincere Good Wishes" ✨ We love this beautiful #Christmas #card from the #HarryClarke and #MargaretClarke Papers, 1860-1991; catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls0....

to me LLM use in writing classrooms begs the q of why we'd *want* to cede the human, world-making acts of thinking, being wrong, asking, figuring out, etc., *as if* those are uninteresting, ungermane. skipping over living to get to the point of life? no! who teaches us to want this? who benefits?

Where to even start with this? The idea that using AI is a ‘method you can use to research something’ is absolutely desperate. www.irishtimes.com/ireland/educ...

For the day that's in it, Patrick Kavanagh's Advent

This is a wonderful piece of writing, and art historical endeavour. Read and gasp!

Having something in the Irish University Review is a little bit of a pinch-me moment! Huge thanks to my co-authors, @lcollins232.bsky.social and all IUR team! Wonderful to highlight this fascinating part of UCD Special Collections and the NGI Yeats Archive 📚 🖼️

Doing some special collections cataloguing for the first time in ~11 months and remembering late in the day that one bound volume does not equal just one book. Lots of lovely surprises in here! 📚

Hello to everyone who’s followed me recently, and thanks to those who included my profile on various starter packs! A little about me: I’m the Assistant Librarian in the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, helping look after and develop a really incredible art library 📚📜

Renewing my account on Bluesky and finding all the wonderful folks in Ireland making, doing, and producing amazing creative work. My initial stab at a starter pack for Creative & Cultural Ireland. Suggestions welcome! go.bsky.app/3bwvaMZ

“Libraries are not neutral — no institution or body of people can ever truly be. In fact, claiming neutrality creates a chilling effect and facilitates the suppression of dissenting voices by mainstream ones.” 👇

Yep. And also, terrible for abortion rights, terrible for trans rights, and terrible for migrant rights (even second or third generation). Great for tech giants generally and Elon Musk specifically. And these things are initially American issues but **they will become global issues, too**.

A gift to anyone teaching information literacy though…

“If the values of librarianship mean anything at all, librarians worldwide must stand in solidarity with their Palestinian colleagues, as organisations such as the International Council on Archives have already done.” // www.irishtimes.com/opinion/lett...

Excellent pre-birthday bank holiday weekend in London 🎨🥂

Yes, we came all the way to London to watch IRLvFRA ☘️

London calling ✈️ Send any exhibition recommendations this way! Even remembered to renew my ICOM on time 🎨💅🏻

Art should remain at the boundaries… where ‘contentious issues are kept in check’? What a thing to read.

For fuck sake, writers, STOP USING AI ART. Stop using it on your book covers, stop using it in your book promos, stop using it to show what your OCs look like, stop using it as "inspiration," STOP USING IT. You want your artform respected, respect other artforms. There is no ethical use. None.

At the Chester Beatty, swatches of fabric in centuries-old books help reveal Ethiopia’s place in global trade networks. Researchers studying fabrics in Ethiopian books, 1400s–1900s, have found they came from as far west as England, as far east as China. dublininquirer.com/2...

This is such an interesting and beautiful resource! Congratulations to the authors 📚

Today is my last day at the UCD Library a very happy workplace for almost 4 years! I’ve learned so much, especially from my Special Collections colleagues, and I’m so grateful for the career path this time has opened up. A new adventure beckons later in the month! 📚 💓

Such a beautiful place to work> Assistant Director of Research, Huntington Library #skystorians 🗃

Love this cat, as seen in a Patrick Hennessy painting! From the Crawford Art Gallery collection, on show in the RHA 🎨

Posters for Georg Kaisers’s ‘Gas’ from Ukraine and Estonia, and Harry Kernoff’s costume designs for the Dublin production in 1930 - stage designs also feature in the room 🫶 Now showing at IMMA as part of their self-determination exhibition. I think Kernoff would have been delighted with this!

Sunny or not, the Newgrange livestream is such a joy - what a way to highlight the richness of archaeology, public history and all the excellent scholars and guides that work for the OPW ☀️

Very sad to think of a Dublin Christmas without this wonderful place 💔
