If you have a device that CAN run Apple Intelligence you need to turn this off as well as the general Apple Intelligence setting.
Settings > Screen Time > scroll down to Content and Privacy > turn on Restrictions > Intelligence and Siri > turn off the first three options

If you've turned off Apple Intelligence on your Mac, check the instructions here too for "Image Playground" and other AI bullshit.

If you want to turn off Siri too, go for it.

What would Steve Jobs say about ads in macOS for features Iβd turned off?
One setting to turn it off should turn it all off, entirely.
This is the kind of thing I think Steve Jobs would have mocked on stage had Microsoft added this to Windows.
In my original post, I got an ad for Image Playground despite having the AI stuff turned off.
Apple support isnβt clear on this.
So if itβs βjustβ an ad, I donβt want that either.
Apple Intelligence must be disabled for every app... going into the app settings and then disabling 3 - 4 toggles, for every damn app. Also, the Siri BS combined with this...
This is a pure UI dark pattern.
Imagine turning off WiFi and being presented with a list of WiFi networks.
I kinda miss XP Pro, honestly.
I'm running Sonoma 14.4.1 and the 'intelligence' started arriving with macOS Sequoia 15.1, so I think I'm safe.
At least, on this computer. I'll check the work PC on Monday.
Which leads me to believe no restrictions are the default. Including having ChatGPT integration turned on!
Remember when ο£Ώ advertised itself as having privacy by default?
AI ruins everything.
Apple Intelligence works on Apple Silicon Macs and later iPhones. Doesnβt work on iPhone 14 but does work on iPhone 16.
Whatβs disturbing is that the options Iβm seeing are present on devices that donβt support this stuff.
I got an ad for Image Playground

The whole Apple Intelligence thing feels very half assed and poorly rolled out.
Iβm only talking about this screen.
Under restrictions tap on βApp Store, Media and Gamesβ, then βAppsβ, make sure itβs set to 17+
And it seems like hundreds of people have had none of the issues youβre describing, including the iPhone 16 next to me that has full support for Apple Intelligence.
I had it turned off as far as I was aware yet I got an ad in system settings on my Mac (which can use Apple intelligence) promoting the βImage Playgroundβ
https://derflounder.wordpress.com/category/apple-intelligence/ has some good info on how this can be turned off using management tools.
I donβt feel comfortable seeing an ad for Image Playground in system settings when I thought I had Apple Intelligence turned off.
