A friend in need is a friend indeed.. 🐢

Tired calf getting a humpy-back ride from mama! Acoustic data along with surface visual observations can help us get a better understanding of #humpbackwhale behaviors in the presence of vessel activities. Join us on this important study today! bit.ly/BayQuest-Exp (Kogia-Karim Iliya)

If someone doesn't write a classic satire about these times that is remembered for a thousand years, I don't even know what we're doing here.

Having done work with 18th and 19th century letters, this is both true and very funny! See the one with the teenage boy complaining about his school clothes ( his mother just doesn't love him!)

We can't promise we'll fix all of your problems But we promise not to become one of them Follow @waterways-project.bsky.social

Beavers have nice flat tails, but they don’t want the rest of them getting flattened! 👀 That’s why, after every few bites, they carefully listen for cracks, ensuring they’re clear before the tree falls. These lumberjacks have some tree-mendous skills. 🦫🌳 #dangerousjob

Struggle is a word choice…no private entity could come close to what NOAA/NWS does.

As someone in the replies pointed out, this can be found on nasa's apod site with info on the image. Great picture!

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

I work on government contracts. The accounting rules are insanely strict. We are financially audited completely every 2 years and we are starting to be audited for cyber security every 3 years.

In this ancient Assyrian letter, astronomers complain that they can’t do their jobs or teach astronomy “because of the ilku-duty”, a type of taxation in the form of labour. “we cannot keep the watch of the king, and the pupils do not learn the scribal craft” cdli.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/artifacts/33...

In the event anyone has opinions about the FCC or anything else they'd like to express to Chairman Carr, I have it on decent authority his [email protected] address is read by him personally By "decent authority" I mean some dork who works for him was running his mouth about it in Navy Yard

Wow, did not know this! I love it!

Real birds sitting on their plastic twins 👯‍♀️ Meet artist Bart Eysink Smeets, who created this amazing series. He placed the plastic birds outside and patiently waited until a real one of the same kind landed on top. And let’s be honest—our real bird friends are unbeatable. 🐦✨ #birds

Good morning from @altyellonatpark.org

Mom, get up!

This is AMAZING news! Fuck Amazon www.salon.com/2025/01/28/b...

Bird nests made from anti-bird spikes?! 🤯 Hi, I'm a nest researcher 👋 and new here on BlueSky, sharing the craziest #bird nests I've ever found. 👀 Today, I’m sharing my discovery of rebellious birds that build nests out of anti-bird spikes. And honestly, it's like telling a joke... A thread. 🧵

This is a wonderful piece of writing. Always amusing when nitwit culture warriors like Kelly decry the “woke-ification” of pop culture staples that were always inclusive, political, and “woke.” open.substack.com/pub/ser1897/...

Have you ever wondered how bumble bees survive the long, cold winter months? If so, check out this short web story I wrote for WWF on the subject. These critical pollinators are truly amazing animals. www.worldwildlife.org/stories/wher.... #bee #bumblebee #pollinator #insect

I really liked this, especially as an historian! Great video!

Exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce that tapir Yuna gave birth to a rare and endangered Malayan tapir calf Sunday night. The newborn, covered in distinctive white spots and stripes resembling a fuzzy walking watermelon, is only the second tapir born in our 120-year history.

Friendly reminder that it's time for a palate cleanser! Set your phone down and pick up a book for at least 30 minutes. You'll be glad you did. #StopScrollingStartTurning #BookSky

Passing on a note from a colleague: People with federal student loans should download their files IMMEDIATELY. These files are currently on the studentaid.gov website, which may get deleted if Trump follows through with his EO to shut down DOE

Please, PLEASE do not do this. Journalists, lawyers and others who are trained and experienced in using these systems are actively filing narrowly targeted requests for information right now. Bombarding the system will just make it less likely anything useful is released promptly.

This is such a great question that I think it deserves a whole thread. The cuneiform writing system included numbers, and we know how to say the names of many of these numbers in both Akkadian and Sumerian (languages that cuneiform was used to write). Let's start with Sumerian.

Someone asked a U.S. Army Special Forces sergeant what they could do to thank him for his service. He said, “Be a citizen worth serving.”
