Good news is good news. :)
San Marcos has a few species that fill our skies
too many of them already
🤯
“But if you cultivate a healthy poverty and simplicity, so that finding a penny will literally make your day, then, since the world is in fact planted in pennies, you have with your poverty bought a lifetime of days. It is that simple. What you see is what you get.”

I’d settle for a moth in there currently. That said, I hardly use cash anymore, and the bank balance says I can still go shopping so that’s still a win :)
“It’s now time to turn this year’s increase into a lasting trend with an all-hands approach where governments, landowners, conservationists, & citizens continue to safeguard critical habitats along the monarch’s No American migratory route.”
This is wonderful news 💕
Thanks.
I swear I'm not trying to be a downer - this is great news - I'm just curious.
I was so worried about them after the LA wildfires
I've been planting habitat here in Canada in my yard and surrounding area. Last year I saw way more than years before so it's good to hear that it may be a trend.
Possible make me smile.
I’ve raised Monarchs but had no eggs last year.
I found the butterflies seemed to prefer the orange zinnias over the pink ones.
Common Milkweed
Mexican Butterfly Weed
Narrow Leaf Milkweed
Those voracious Caterpillars eat them ALL, down to the nubs of the branches.
They metamorphose best when they are about the size of my ring finger.
🐛
::does a little dance::
They only live for 2 to 6 weeks

This year I’m adding Tithonia to the zinnia bed.
I have a monarch butterfly sticker on my front window
Because monarchs migrate
And migrants are safe in my house
my heart was bruised from the bad news about the monarchs last year so this is 🥹
🧢
We’ve been worried about the Monarch population for years here in Texas — have seen fewer each season.
Thanks for posting this!
JFC!
When I was a kid in the Texas hill country (oh just 50 years or so ago) we lived right in the path of a Monarch migration from Mexico.
Bunches would literally *land on us* and just, like, hang out for a while.
Happy for any good Monarch news
but haven't been down to Monterey to see the big crowds of them that migrate up to there.
