Reminder: The University is solely one part of knowledge-making. Discussing social justice among ourselves without engaging knowledge from outside academia comprises partially- manufactured knowledge.

This is a must-read piece that lays out in detail what just happened with the SCOTUS decision on birthright citizenship and where we’re headed if we don’t fight it.

If #Poland's "national good" dictates that we too withdraw from the #OttawaTreaty / Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, then I disagree with our Minister of #Defense on the meaning of "national good". 1/N businessinsider.com.pl/polityka/sej...

🙌 Exciting new study from #Anatolia published by @compevohumang.bsky.social in @science.org today! Anthropologists have long argued that kinship and family do not need to be genetically oriented. The study from Çatalhöyük wonderfully highlights this point also for Neolithic in Anatolia. Congrats!

This NY Times podcast discusses 1,700 NIH grants that were cancelled mid-stream. They largely fell into two categories: (a) studies of underrepresented populations (e.g., black women, gay men); and (b) studies by researchers from underrepresented groups. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/26/p...

Republicans seem hell bent on trying to sell public lands. Members need to stand up and stop this giveaway of our natural heritage. The latest Lee proposal is just one more attempt to see if Congress blinks. (1/2) www.outdoorlife.com/conservation...

Socialism, tonight, defeated barbarism. After the two-decade midnight of 9/11, dawn is breaking.

The climate and biodiversity costs to opening up roadless areas are astronomical. The roadless rule protects over half of Tongass National Forest, which is home to over 400 species of wildlife and stores more than 10% of the carbon accumulated by all national forests across the US.

#Spain, the only large EU member state with a centre-left government, has recently been in the headlines for rejecting the increased NATO spending target. But it also stands out for its liberal migration policy (much to the benefit of its economy) - and for increasing its development aid spending.

EXCLUSIVE — The Onion has a full-page ad in today’s NYT featuring part of an editorial calling out congressional fecklessness towards Trump. They also sent a copy of their latest issue to every lawmaker. My report, with an excerpt from the full editorial: www.thehandbasket.co/p/exclusive-...

The war in Iran is illegal under the UN Charter, under War Powers Act, and didn't even comply with National Security Act.

Yesterday was World Refugee Day which aims to raise awareness about people’s plight as they are forced to leave home. I highly recommend watching this animated short film Migrants which helps convey this reality: youtu.be/ugPJi8kMK8Q #refugees #ClimateChange #borders #migration

Impunity is spreading—Israel's actions, ICE operations, military force at borders, harm of protesters, suppression of science. This is outcome of electing leaders with criminal histories or remaining indifferent to their crimes. If we become inured, we set ourselves up for era of unchecked impunity.

We are more or less at the “state abandonment of social contract and overall veneer of legitimacy” that created the Batman.

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

Hydrology Paper of the Day @charliejgardner.bsky.social on a global decline in seed dispersal: problem scope, challenges, and ecological processes; evolutionary change in seed dispersers; interactions, threats, and consequences; changes in functional composition and the carbon cycle; and management

Thanks for this article. I think there may be other scientists who are for conserving and restoring #ecosystems such as #wetlands but wary of coopting or engineering them for defense. #Militarization is already excluding people from borderland ecosystems through exclusion zones & other activities.
