An explosive ordnance disposal #EOD technician died in Croatia this week www.index.hr/vijesti/clan... It's already taken over 25 years for #Croatia to work toward mine clearance. Withdrawing from conventions that prohibit the use of anti-personnel mines and cluster munitions could cost lives.

Withdrawal from both the anti-personnel mine ban convention and the convention on cluster munitions will represent a major step backwards for #Baltic states, #Finland and #Poland (if Poland indeed withdraws—it could still remain party). news.un.org/en/story/202...

#Poland— and more than 160 other countries—pledged to eliminate these indiscriminate explosive weapons from our arsenals given that victims tend to be civilians. Others are animals & the environment. "Deterioration of the security situation" does not justify withdrawal. treaties.unoda.org/t/mine_ban

I emphasize that the research was carried out by Chinese scientists because I lament that U.S. scientists — the USA being among the world's biggest wildlife consumer countries along with China — have not done an introspective study like this one to examine efficacy of domestic policies on #CWT

This would be the largest public lands sell-off in modern U.S. history and it's happening with no hearings, no debate, and no public input. See what public lands would be available for sale: www.wilderness.org/articles/med...
