Fuck this "Canada as 51st state" framing. Why are we allowing the narrative to be set in this way? The framing should be "America starting an illegal war with Canada" because THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

Someone else likes my fuzzy blanket.

Thank you, @jama.com “The silence with which many of us and our institutions are meeting this moment must be challenged.”

Cheap skin-on chicken thighs = schmaltz for cooking & cracklings to snack on. I’m making dirty rice for supper with leftover salsa chicken and a bunch of stuff I need to use up and this will flavour it beautifully.

"all ED should include at least one additional experienced physician, alongside the nursing team performing triage..." A very urban-centric view when many rural EDs are struggling to find one doc to stay open. bmcemergmed.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.... #MedSky @kaymd.bsky.social

I love it when I can hear my kids laughing at things I texted them.

Never not a good song. This could be the most upbeat protest song ever, given the current climate. Just saying.

Probably the first hockey game I have ever cared about. Canada wins the 4 Nations final 3-2. www.ctvnews.ca/sports/artic...

I have worked out that it costs me around 65 cents per loaf of bread, excluding electricity for the oven. A lot better than the $4 it costs to buy one loaf of French bread at the store, and takes only about 20 minutes of actual prep time (I do other stuff while it’s rising.)

Have spent most of my life hoping for the world to get more like that of Star Trek. I’m feeling like we’re ending up more on the Star Wars prequel trilogy side of things, though…

Measles: MASSIVELY contagious- 9 in 10 people near a person with measles will be infected and ~20% of people who get it will be hospitalized but also MASSIVELY preventable- 2 doses of the measles vaccine is 97% effective If you are not vaccinated against measles, now is a great time

My children set up a food truck in the living room and are attempting to sell me the food I already bought.

I love the taste of homemade broth but man does it take forever to make a small amount, yet I lack a pressure canner to safely can my own.

In a box of old papers, I found my withdrawal form from physics at U of O in 2005 because I couldn’t afford to attend. On the form I wrote hopefully that I would return in fall 2006. Instead by then I was 19, married, and pregnant. Took me 6 more years to go back to school. How life has changed.

This "wellness farms" idea seem rooted in the tradition of sanitariums, which came from Europe to the US in the 19th C. The emphasis was on purifying the body (and soul). The stain of modernity would be cleansed away and one would reconnect with a spiritualized version of Nature.

Goodnight, beautiful Island.

Was fun to record that episode (even though I was both tired and recovering from a pretty serious illness!) I’m glad there’s been some movement on this topic in the last year. Still irritated the bill was defeated here.

I've been asked by a number of my #MedSky American friends about moving to Canada. dialogue.cpso.on.ca/articles/rem...
