Put on my snob hat for a sec to say that one thing you have to learn before they let you get a PhD is how to identify what you don’t know that you don’t know. Imagine if more people with power knew how to do that 🥴

Heads up that I’m running for president in 2032 (I will not be old enough in 2028). Platform mostly on making it windier if I can. Just letting everyone know to keep eye out for that in advance

Scientists & experts: Add your name to this open letter calling on Congress and the Trump administration to ensure that NOAA and its sub-agencies remain fully funded and staffed, and that the independent, trusted science the agency produces is protected. act.ucsusa.org/4kajJuk

Reading slush on the light rail like the writers of old all I need is to be smoking

Fragile tiny baby Pinus aristata. It’s no longaeva but it could outlive every single on of us and our great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great etc. grandchildren.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency team is reportedly using artificial intelligence to guide its cost-cutting decisions, a tactic AI experts say could cause security breaches, biased firing choices and cuts of highly qualified, essential government staffers.

You might not see it in the mainstream media, but over 10,000 people protested today at Tesla showrooms across the country, another 10,000+ rallied in support of national parks, and more than 1,000 gathered in Vermont to protest Vance’s visit.

I worry that the focus on NOAA's weather predicting value is ignoring the millions of other ways NOAA researchers enrich communities and local economies. There are no oysters without NOAA. There are no blue crabs without NOAA. NOAA trains teachers. NOAA is the lifeblood of coastal communities.

Finally read Pastoralia and this is my new all time favorite story: www.barcelonareview.com/20/e_gs.htm

Bezos isn’t “bending the knee.” Corporate media isn’t either. The oligarchs aren’t scared or capitulating, they’re part of a coup in the middle of an aggressive class war. The longer we keep framing it otherwise the worse it’s going to get. jaredyatessexton.substack.com/p/the-birth-...

Hey look a portal open to public submission, hope no one floods it with the Bee Movie script to the point of being unusable or something

WASHINGTON (AP) - The number of Americans applying for jobless benefits last week jumps to 242,000, a three-month high.

My favorite Kurt Vonnegut quote--"you are what you pretend to be"--comes from Mother Night, a novel about an American spy who pretends to be a Nazi propagandist only to realize later in life he was just being a Nazi propagandist

Hello writing community who here would like 2 be my agent

The AG still not releasing the EPSTEIN FILES is weird and raises the question of who she might be protecting 🤔

It’s SO underrated to have a look-alike so you know exactly what you’ll look like as you get older

Cheez it for cheez girl !!!

For all our American neighbours who may be struggling to find accurate health information - thr Public Health Agency of Canada has a website you are more than welcome to use: www.canada.ca/en/public-he...

Quite an exchange here between Judge Reyes and DOJ attorney on how "pronoun usage" affects military readiness.

This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

Big, growing crowd just west of the U.S. Capitol protesting Trump, Musk and DOGE on President’s Day. “Hey Congress, grow a spine,” they shout, gathering for a rally around the reflecting pool.

I see a lot of confusion about why they’re dismantling the federal government to fill capitalists’ pockets when that’s so obviously shortsighted. The answer is that there is simply no where else for capitalism to go.

I will say again: The destruction of the CFPB—an agency that has brought in $20 billion over a little more than a decade despite having an annual budget that's less than what DOD has spent so far today—is the clearest sign none of this has anything to do with saving taxpayers money.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

“The goal of Trump--like all autocrats and dictators--is to make you feel that “resistance is futile,” but history shows that people standing up to that leader has inspired others to do the same.” @ruthbenghiat.bsky.social talks with @deanobeidallah.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/deanobei...

Still wondering! #writingcommunity

Why not pilot a cargo ship like a jon boat? Why not turn a massive powerful machine on a dime? Now go in to the engine room and yank out parts that look like they might be loose, throw them overboard. Set the rudder perpendicular to the stern. Gun the engine. What could go wrong?

I am really outdone. The Maryland National Guard cannot celebrate Frederick Douglass, the state’s native son and perhaps the greatest American this nation ever produced, because he’s Black and his chosen birthday happened to fall during Black History Month. (Ask me why he had to choose is b-day)

The fetishization of literature as an empathy-generation process both overvalues empathy as a mode of understanding and undervalues literature, which rather than just creating empathy is the art form of interiority. You can gain more than empathy from direct contact with the interiority of another

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

Quote with you looking fancy Back in my LL Bean modeling days (I’m making that up)

Wikipedia is rolling out anonymity features piloted in countries with authoritarian governments in the US & is making a change to not show editor IP addresses in response to a global "increase in threats" from Elon Musk, Heritage Foundation, and governments www.404media.co/wikipedia-pr...
