This is such a wonderful synopsis! A great read.

Last time we all lost our minds over K2-18b 🔭 , I wrote this blog post. The summary is... don't.

The Kremlin and other autocracies have long ached to see Voice of America and Radio Liberty destroyed, but even in their most fevered dreams, they could never have imagined that the Americans would do the dirty work themselves. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Delighted to announce the #openaccess publication of "A pinned elastic plate on a thin viscous film" with Phil Trinh and Howard Stone in Journal of #FluidMechanics. doi.org/10.1017/jfm....

Excited to share our new paper in @pnas.org doi.org/10.1073/pnas...! Ice cubes often appear cloudy because, as water freezes, air bubbles get trapped and scatter light. But how does freezing rate affect the shape of the bubbles?

A great idea! Pass it on. 🇨🇦

Canada’s oldest brewery is selling a crate of 1,461 beers – dubbed the "Presidential Pack" – to help Canadians get through the next four years with a beer a day: cnn.it/4kCg4Fy

@standupforscience.bsky.social 🧪 Is there a #standupforscience2025 in Los Angeles? There was such an event mentioned on the website a few days ago (along with San Francisco) but it seems to have vanished. I was wondering if these CA events didn't get a permit. Thanks for your important work!

In the next edition of #CondensedMatterPioneers we would like to highlight the career of Pierre-Gilles de Gennes (1932-2007), a French physicist renowned for his extensive contributions to condensed matter physics, particularly in the study of soft matter.🧵

Dear CBC, Today’s show needs to be cancelled Wrong choices were made O’Leary is not a legitimate voice on Canadian sovereignty He tried to sell Canada and profit from it Pause this conversation, make better choices #Checkup #CanadaStrong 🇨🇦 #Never51

Fantastic news. More countries should do the same.

The way the media is so chill about a concentration camp starting today, and those being prepared in El Salvador, as if it's a pop concert is so chilling. 4 years from now they'll say they simply didn't know! 😡 Let's be clear! This is a concentration camp! www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/u...

Doug’s not protecting Canada. Doug’s promoting Doug.

Explaining to CNN the economic chaos that Donald Trump is about to unleash on his own people. We will never break or concede to an erratic thug who seems like Al Capone in his syphilitic phase trying to pull a shakedown. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-ZE...

Great lineup in this "Physical Review Letters collection of the year 2024" which represents a "distillation of some of the most important and interesting papers in physics and related areas." A great way to see some work in your area of research, but also more broadly. promo.aps.org/PRL2024

Canada didn’t want this fight. Canada didn’t start this fight. This fight makes absolute zero rational sense, between any two trading partners, let alone close friends and allies. Canada did everything we could to avoid this fight. But Canada doesn’t back down from a fight. #NotSorry #Tariffs

Americans choose most expensive way possible to discover what goods made in Canada

We are in the fight of our lives. But Canadians have been called to be heroic before and we have never been defeated. This is our time to defend our country. Le Canada est uni. Ce sera une période difficile, mais c’est l’occasion de bâtir notre nation et de célébrer notre solidarité. Vive le Canada

For the 4th year in a row, my all-sky camera has been taking an image of the sky above the Netherlands every 15 seconds. Combining these images reveal the length of the night changing throughout the year, the passage of clouds and the motion of the Moon and the Sun through the sky. #astrophotography

Hitler teases German expansion The chancellor-elect has suggested a territorial extension into Austria, the Sudetenland and Poland. If he's serious, it would rival the Treaty of Utrecht.

Fun paper by Johnathan Hoggarth, where we use some very simple first year physics to measure the adhesion between particles. This will appear in EPJE as a Tips&Tricks paper. arxiv.org/abs/2412.11311

12 years old - life altering injuries. JFC what are we doing? We know the problem, we know the solution yet we just continually choose not to fix it.

A simple #physics question to test your intuition: take two identical ideal springs (same material, same rest length), and cut a small length “a” off one and use it to lengthen the other spring. If we attach the ends of the springs and let them relax, what will be the final length? (no bending)

“Believe it or not, electric bikes offer more exercise than pedal bikes on average. That fact might sound strange, but the science is clear.” Why e-bikes actually give more exercise than “acoustic”bikes. (but both/either are excellent when it comes to better cities) electrek.co/2024/02/20/w...
