For example, I had never played a Metroid game. Or a Castlevania game... I'm a couple hours into Super Metroid on the SNES, and loving it! Also surprised to find the Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance GBA port is pretty faithful to the PS1 game I absolutely loved back in the day.

With Elden Ring, I got to the Fire Giant and just couldn't get past him - across two separate save files! I used a dexy spellsword first, and unga bunga Guts build next. Hate that big dickhead. So, hopefully, DS1 will be the first FROM game I beat!

I got to the end-game with Bloodborne (The One Reborn was the last boss I beat, I think), and I needed to go to Micolash, but the PS4 I was using was just too noisy to be viable to use (and it was borrowed from someone else...)

I'm pretty happy with my progress so far, and I feel far more confident that I can actually beat this game. I've tried a few times but never got this far.

Next, I'm gonna explore the Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith and get a Sunlight Maggot for wearing in the Tomb of Giants. Should be able to get up to, if not beat Bed of Chaos

Thanks! It was Ornstein & Smough. They were not as hard as I expected but still challenging enough that it took me a bunch of attempts over a few days. I worked out how to kite and kill Smough while not getting bopped by the big guy. Then it was just a case of tackling him the same as Stray Demon.

Attempt 7. I think I can now consistently take out Ornstein. I got Giant Electric Smough down to ~30% health on my first attempt at him, but couldn't get space to heal after misjudging how far the AoE was on his electric buttslam. Will deffo be able to do this, but the run back is annoyingly long.

Sorry, I am *now* the furthest I've ever been in the game

Ok, I actually had a few tries. Annoying, but very doable. It looks like the strat is to spar with Ornstein until Smough catches up, then retreat and allow Ornstein to attack again (cos he's faster) and repeat. I almost had him down in my 3rd try, but got caught out with his ranged attack mid-heal.

I don't anymore because of money issues (may start again soon), but I used to have a physical subscription to Byline Times. In the UK, it's really the only non-establishment left wing news periodical.

I cleared each area leading to the boss as well. No boss rushes! Gonna do the Gaping Dragon next, and then Sif. Then I'll head out to Anor Londo to take on the beefy bois. On my last playthrough, I got as far as the bonfire before O&S.

I believe @allieinchains.bsky.social has something set up for this. If my memory is right...

I just looked at the lineup poster, and there's not a single day I'd get my money's worth. I don't remember that ever being the case before.

Yeah, that's exactly it. The bass was uncomfortable haha

Young Finnish guys playing black metal and Kep approves, meaning they are unlikely to be shitheads? Wow this is a rare find indeed!

I'm gonna be that guy and show you my band. H8000-inspired hardcore. Arkangel, Contention, Killing Me Softy are some influences on this and (mostly) our newer stuff to be recorded soon. youtu.be/uYL49y39Nsw

I need to give this a try. I adore Hamferð

The setlist was a chronological selection of songs from each album so far. So, a lot for fans to appreciate, I guess. I felt it was disjointed switching between the different styles they play with so often. I think it was a 2/5 for me.

Half the time, the guitarist and bassist just left the stage completely. The stage was very lightshow heavy. It was good, but a bit too much strobe for me. I genuinely had to turn my head away for large portions of the show. I'm not typically sensitive to light shows.
