I write and talk about the NBA, especially the salary cap, CBA and roster construction stuff. I do these things for Spotrac, NBA Front Office Show and The Basketball Bulletin. Any nonsense you see here is from me, not my employers.

Ok…actual last thought before bed: Under Brad Stevens, the Celtics never make the moves you hear all the buzz about. They do a pretty good job of working in silence. That helps them as a trade partner, because the other side doesn’t have to worry about the talks leaking out.

Last thought for tonight: I think the Celtics are going to try to play a lot faster next season. More offensive focus. Simons fits in with that. And he's another three-point bomber, so that fits too. More moves to come for Boston. This is just the first one.

Very quick thoughts, since I was already falling asleep at the last normal time for the next month: 🏀Celtics save considerable money this year and moving forward with this trade, pending a new deal for Anfernee Simons. 🏀Boston gets a shooter/scorer when they'll need that with Jayson Tatum out. 1/2

I'm sad to see Jrue Holiday go. He and his family had talked about making Boston home. He was such a massive part of the 2024 title. Really enjoyed his time with the Celtics. Unfortunately, this is life as a second apron team. Have to keep chipping away, while not downgrading too much.

Boston is now about $18M over the second apron after trading Jrue Holiday for Anfernee Simons. Portland is about $6.6M under the luxury tax after this deal. Blazers will incur a first-apron hard cap because they are taking in more money in this deal. About $14.7M under the first apron.

Thanks to all for following, reading, listening, watching and engaging with my work this NBA season! Now, we’re on to the offseason, which is really my time to shine! A few more offseason previews to come, then the Draft and free agency. I hope you’ll all come along for the ride!

Oh man...Isaiah Hartenstein's son just zonked out while up on the podium hit me right in the feels as a dad. So awesome!

Lisa Salters: "Sam, what's the first thing you think about when you look at the Larry O'Brien Trophy?" Sam Presti's internal monologue (probably): "Draft picks. How can I get more draft picks?"

Congrats to the Oklahoma City Thunder and their fans! The best team in the NBA from Opening Night through Game 7 of the NBA Finals. A very well-earned championship!

Gutted for Tyrese Haliburton, the Pacers and their fans. Not just for tonight, but what this means for them next year and moving forward. It's so hard to get here. To have it go like this is brutal and it sucks.

Pascal Siakam came back in with about two minutes to play. If he plays the whole fourth quarter, he'll finish with 38 minutes. How do you not play him 40+ minutes tonight?

I'm not sure Bryant fresh off the bench letting a three rip is the shot you want. It's probably time to just push as many minutes as you can for Siakam and Turner. There's no Game 8.

I'm not going to count the Pacers out for the umpteenth time in these playoffs, but they seem like they are about out of energy. Emotion and adrenaline can only carry you so far.

Now everyone is going to start making shots?

Lisa Salters just reported on the broadcast that Tyrese Haliburton's dad confirmed it is an Achilles' injury for the Pacers guard.

This has been a disaster of a series for Chet Holmgren on offense. Really struggling to get anything to fall.

Oh no. Not like this. Damn it.

That on-ball defense from Andrew Nembhard! 😍😍😍

That’s a lot of money invested in shooting guards and small forwards:

For cap enthusiasts, lots of good little details about how bonuses and other subtle factors made the difficult salary matching possible.

With the Suns now having a glut of guards on the roster, I've seen a lot of people suggesting that Phoenix should waive and stretch Bradley Beal's contract. They aren't allowed. I explained the options Phoenix has with Beal for @spotrac.com a couple of months ago: www.spotrac.com/news/_/id/27...

LIVE @frontofficeshow.bsky.social breaking down the Kevin Durant trade starts NOW! Join @trevorlanenba.bsky.social and I as we get into everything from the trade for the Rockets, Suns and more! See you there! www.youtube.com/live/rcJbsdd...

With the trade as reported, I've got the Rockets at: 🏀$33.6M under the tax 🏀$41.6M under the first apron 🏀$53.5M under the second apron That's without Fred VanVleet or Aaron Holiday on the books. Houston can create more wiggle room by waiving Jock Landale and/or Nate Williams.

Because the PHX-HOU trade will be a July 6 deal (has to be bc of Green's poison pill in his extension), I have a feeling this trade will be expanded. It will work as a two-team trade in July, but that's without Green collecting his trade bonus. Plus, Suns have 87 guards now. Makes sense to expand.

Quick thoughts: 🏀Suns have a LOT of guards/wings now. Something more has to come for balance. 🏀Rockets are going for it. What happens with FVV now? They need him back. Lots more to come on @spotrac.com and on a LIVE @frontofficeshow.bsky.social in about an hour!

I think if Philadelphia sticks at three, they will and should draft VJ Edgecombe. It's close enough that I'm fine with fit being the tiebreaker. Edgecombe makes more sense. I try to keep my big board separate from what I think the teams will do.

I've still got Ace Bailey #3 on my board. The talent is there. Can score, good rebounder, good defender when engaged. I toggle between him and V.J. Edgecombe at #3, but sticking with Bailey. I don't love his pre-draft process either, but trying not to overthink things too much!

An indispensable resource that I still reference regularly in moments of self doubt. But even better? Larry as a person. So kind and helpful! Just wanted to make things easier for all of us to understand.
