Point taken about Pelosi, but Gerry Connolly is the Democratic ranking member of the House Oversight Committee backed by Pelosi. While he has cancer, he is alive. You are probably referring to Rep. Raul Grijalva from Arizona, who was a member of the progressive wing of the party.

Except Corbin Burnes wanted to play in Arizona. He contacted the Diamondbacks, so I doubt the Orioles could have kept Burnes.

Yes they could!

One of the red pandas escaped from the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park in Washington, DC, during the summer of 2013. His name was Rusty, and he became quite the celebrity. He even had his own account at the other place.

I don't think so. He polled so poorly nationally he didn't even run and initially backed Haley.

Yeah, my first thought was Larry.

A far cry from the days of Bernstein and Woodward.

Gosh, I loved this song. Got my driver's license that year. I couldn't wait for Rapper's Delight and Fantastic Voyage to play on the radio while driving around.

Rutschman doesn't need to be fixed. He was hitting almost .300 when he got hit in the hand by a foul ball in late June. Then his numbers started going down. He should be healthy and ready to go.

This isn't a signing to replace Burnes. The signing isn't as bad as many are making it out to be. The one thing he does comparable to Burnes is pitch a lot of innings.
comment in response to post
30 starts, 165 innings? ERA around 4. Who would that be?
comment in response to post
They didn't sign him to be an ace. He started around 30 games last year. His last 9 games were pretty good.

Morton for one year should help Povich continue to make strides. Morton for 1 year also fills the gap while Bradish and Wells recover this year.
comment in response to post
Why do you say he is done?
comment in response to post
I like this signing for different reasons. Why trade Povich? He is a young arm. Why give up on him already? Morton for one year should help him continue to make strides. Morton for 1 year also fills the gap while Bradish and Wells recover this year.

I agree, but you can't say in this case the new ownership is cheap and doesn't care.

Maybe. I guess you always consider all possibilities. I do wonder if the Flaherty chatter is from the agent or out of the warehouse. All I know is that this should be an exciting season of baseball. So many different storylines to follow. Can't wait.

Ryan Spilborghs' show discussed it. I wonder, let's say the O's sign him for 1 year and they make the playoffs, then what? Do you trust him to start a game? Would he sign for one year? I hope they don't, but it makes for a good discussion.

On one of MLB's shows on SiriusXM, the hosts talked about how the first go round didn't fare well, and it wasn't just the performance. They left it at "It wasn't a good fit for anyone" and left it at that. Said no way the Orioles would go back there.

He wants to play there because he built a home there more than the state income tax rate. Probably icing on the cake, though.

I know this guy. Obviously, he has some problems. I do know he would attend mass almost every morning. I hope he gets some help once his legal obligations are over.

Some already are convinced.
comment in response to post
Yeah, you make a great point. Don't get me wrong, I would have liked it if he resigned here, but it was never going to happen.

Is it risky to take on a bad contract? If you expect Heston, Holliday, Povich, Basallo and others such as Wells and Bradish to be an integral part of the future, why not add small pieces. Remember, they won 101 games in 2023 w/o Burnes. Lots of key injuries last year.
comment in response to post
Are windows set in stone? Who determines how long these windows are "open"? Why is everyone assuming this will be a bad year because there is no Corbin Burnes? They lost in the playoffs because they couldn't score. Maybe they will be better this year than you think.

I listened to MLB earlier in the week. They mentioned that Flaherty and the Orioles weren't a good fit. Sounds like it just didn't work out on multiple levels.

There is a post referencing Nick Deeds saying Corbin approached Arizona. He built a home there in 2022. He was never going to sign with Baltimore. SF and TOR offered more money. Sometimes, it isn't just about the money.

Corbin built a home there in 2022. Everyone knew this. It probably is one reason Milwaukee traded him. He wanted to go to Arizona. According to Nick Deeds, Corbin approached Arizona, not the other way around.

Social Security can remain solvent for the next century by eliminating the cap. There is no need to raise the age at all, ever.
comment in response to post
Yeah, social security would be solvent for at least the next 100 years. BTW, Project 2025 stated this believe it or not. Of course, this isn't the option they will choose to secure the program.

I remember the bookmobile coming to the neighborhood when I was a kid. It didn't get any more exciting than that!

The Giants and Blue Jays offered more than the Diamondbacks. Sometimes, it isn't just about money. He built a home in Arizona in 2022.
comment in response to post
He didn't take the biggest offer.

Can Flaherty and Scherzer be considered aces at this point in their careers? The Orioles may be better than people expect.
