5) Influencer culture is idiotic.

4) Take the emotions of children seriously, even your boy children. (When they say they don't want to do something or something is wrong, listen! That part where young Chad says he doesn't know how to express himself on camera and Ruby just bulldozes right over him was infuriating and heartbreaking)

that their stories are their own. It confirmed a lot of stuff I've always suspected: malignant narcissists are the most dangerous and influencer culture is mostly ridiculous fakery. #booksky

I'm sorry. That sucks.

Not to mention intricate murder mysteries and (mostly) lovely settings! But the biggest reason to read is Blanche herself. I got teary as I finished the last one because I know there won't be anymore: I'll miss Blanche's smart, dryly funny, and almost-never-surprised voice in my head. #booksky

Her position allows her closeness to the privileged while remaining invisible, perfect for an unofficial detective. There's so much here, not just racism, but colorism, misogynoir, and classism. But also joy, connections to the earth and each other, and decolonized spiritual practices.

Maybe, maybe it could work if Jennifer Lynch and Mark Frost are involved? I said "maybe," so don't throw things at me.

Might be time for a re-read. Maybe I'll listen to the audio version.

North Woods is in my "to be read" pile. Maybe I'll read it next.

LOVED this book. Reminded me I'm not the main character.

I've met a lot of people with siblings who are pretty unlikeable.

We've got the richest man on earth throwing Nazi signs at our presidential inauguration, it's a billion degrees below zero, I'm telling you I cannot even ...

I really liked We Sold Our Souls. The concept was just so dang cool. Have you read The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires yet? That’s probably my personal favorite Hendrix book.

I live in the States, but I love Canadian writers who set their stories in Canada. Keep ‘em coming!

My great-grandfather was born there, so I'm cool with it.

I am utterly riveted and I wouldn't even say that I'm that much of a Bikini Kill fan. I'm also appreciating Kurt Cobain on a deeper level through her memories of hanging out with him in Olympia. He was a feminist who actually walked the walk.

This is in my "to be read" stack right now.
