I'm just me. The tech community has allowed me to express myself beyond a single role, company, or technology. The role I play in the community is helping people understand what's possible by meeting them where there're at, then showing them what's next.

Thanks for the kind words Taylor.

At this point, we are just bidding up every asset class, and when the money runs out we'll print some more.
Fundamentals seem to no longer matter.

Exactly. The main value being clear guidance on how to build extensions which may also work across multiple platforms.

MCP is a specification on how to use HTTP (JSON-RPC) to send and receive messages between an LLM and an agent. So still L7.
The interesting bits are how those messages are formatted. See the features section under the specification tab. modelcontextprotocol.io/specificatio...

If MCP was a net new binary protocol, think CORBA from back in the day, it would have been too hard to implement, let alone adopt.
Instead, MCP leverages the same HTTP based technologies developers have been using for over 10 years, and I believe that's been the key to MCP's early success.

I understand why MCP is a thing. They need a "protocol" between the various LLMs and "extensions" required to pull data and call other tools. It's really a thin specification on top of HTTP, JSON-RPC specifically.

You are correct. This is 100% subjective and just my opinion.

In some ways I'm glad it didn't. The ability to use curl when you're starting out is a huge enabler.

The best thing about those designs are the simplicity and focus on providing up to date information. You cut through the hype and kept everyone on the same page.

It wasn't nice. Vendors were trying to take control away from Docker. I remember the threats of forking the project and the container wars that followed.
In the end, standardization was the right thing to do, but I won't attempt to justify how it was done.

LXC played a big role in the early days as Docker was built on top of it. Once the Dockerfile and Docker Runtime API took off, it made sense to replace LXC and build something fit for purpose.

Docker was announced at PyCon in 2013 and by 2015 there was a huge community of production users, and vendors, that lead to the creation of the Open Container Initiative, which standardized the container image format, runtime, and distribution specifications. opencontainers.org

In this case I have to add that context because it's really shaping my opinion on AI tools. Maximum productivity doesn't matter as much to me.

Could something like this even the playing field? Maybe, but not currently as written. Those not born into wealth won't benefit from parental contributions, and the wealth gap now starts growing at birth.
I got a feeling this will result in the inflation of asset prices and the rich getting richer.

This does indeed open the door for IAM integration across all cloud providers and I bet you could get Kubernetes service account tokens to work as well.
