the entire structure has been undermined for a couple generations to make this possible, its austerity, its shoveling out public institutions, its socializing risk and privatization of capital gains, but most importantly its an auto-coup, an abandonment of accountability and even power by officials

its always been the case in the us that landed gentry or moneybags had more say, but there hundreds of thousands of them with competing interest. now theres just like 5 supreme capitalarchs, and they rule with absolute impunity.

that's so kind :)

Right, I think I mostly lucked into it. Basically the main thing is that I rotate the (normalized) coordinates before sampling the FBM for the warp factor. The rest is just adding random scale and offsets. It's extremely unscientific 😀

thank you!!! its 3D perlin noise sampled from world coordinates thats is warped pretty heavily (domain warping). I think the reason it looks so natural is that I stole the color palette from some NOAA map’s legend lol

shaders are great for that haha

wowww

Next I'll have to figure out how to add some fractal noise cost to the tile expansion, because the shapes are too regular now

this will mean that some plates will carry on top of them continental crust, which might be all or only some of the surface of the plate, leading to more interesting shapes and combinations, and something we see on earth like the 'welding' of north america and the atlantic plate

200k of the finest hand picked space-to-ground renderable planetary region hexagons

yeah thats exactly right

im not sure what a linear lookup means :)
comment in response to post
it just reads from the uv of the texture map to find an index and then goes to a position map and looks up the position there. i also have a neighbor index map per hex index but im having a tough time getting that one working
