I am reminded today, as the Conclave begins, that Francesco entitled one of the chapters in his memoir: ‘Too Long Do I Live Among Those Who Hate Peace’ May the next Bishop of Rome be a bridge-builder towards peace in a world inexplicably ruled by people who are excited by slaughter

I realize he's not retired, only retired from electoral politics, but damnit I miss having Eamon Ryan around. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2025...

I am very grateful to the folk at America Magazine for slowly teaching me how to be a journalist. This is, in many ways, the hardest story I've tried to write: how Trump's tariffs tap into a long story about Christian craftsmanship www.americamagazine.org/politics-soc...

As Galway's local politicians continue to agitate for super-expensive infrastructure from the 1960s, my colleagues show another option from a peer neighbour in Europe

Pope Francis’ Popemobile, “the very vehicle from which he waved and was close to millions of faithful all around the world, is being transformed into a mobile health unit for the children of Gaza.” www.vaticannews.va/en/pope/news...

Maybe my favorite Meister Eckhart. From “Meister Eckhart’s Book of the Heart”❤️📚

We love to see this. Fairplay to #StNicolas'Church in #Galway, promoting active travel amongst their visitors & congregation. Great to see @galwaycitycouncil.bsky.social supporting them.

This is a literal Chuck Palahniuk plot

Mildly haunted by the knowledge that birds *sound* different than they used to, as some species have adjusted the pitch & volume of their calls to essentially shout above human noise. And I wonder which species have developed a way to say, “I’m not mad—I just want to make sure you can hear me!”

Look, you really have to ask what the reaction would if any other country in the world attacked an aid ship from an EU country just outside its waters.

Please commit to join with me to pray for this *solemn* intention: That some Japanese university would suddenly need me to come talk to them about Christian ethics (at a time of year when I can take a week off after and ride my bike) momentummag.com/everything-y...

One thing we can all agree on is that reading and writing are tedious chores that technology should eliminate

you don't need chatGPT i am perfectly capable of drinking a bottle of water and lying to you

AGI is coming for all of us. It will write symphonies, direct movies, and author the best novels. The only thing it won’t be able to do is VC investing, which must be reserved as a task only for the most-special people

your child will toil valiantly in the factory. it will be masculine. it will restore our national character. it will make america great again. oh my child? my child will run a lucrative rightwing podcast

Blair talking about things that are "Doomed to fail" makes sense because practically every single thing he touched turned out, in the cold light of day, to be a catastrophically bad idea. Shilling doom for fossil capitalism is perfectly consistent. Ghoulish.

People who walk & bike to work are happier w/ their commute than those who drive Road rage is a symptom of how we built our cities. Build more homes close to jobs and better trails, sidewalks, & bike paths to get there, & we can help people be happier Great findings from the Commute Seattle team

Keep that Easter tomb empty. (From "Meister Eckhart's Book of the Heart")

My God is love absolutely, #MeisterEckhart from "Meister Eckhart's Book of the Heart." Remember this everyone.❤️🙏

“I’m an avid cyclist but...” Exactly the problem. We don’t need infrastructure just for avid cyclists, we need it for those new and/or apprehensive riders who are terrified of riding through their cities.

It just occurred to me how wild it is that the default basic identification document in the US is linked to driving a car. I drive, therefore I am. @thewaroncars.bsky.social

Informed opinion: I know what it means to be an introvert. If you are enraged at the idea that a stranger in public might exchange pleasantries with you - on a plane, or in a queue, or passing each other in a park - you have an issue that isn't described by introversion

Screengrab because this is not meant as a dunk - I appreciate the account. But isn't it funny that just as Francis moved the Catholic Church away from the default moral high ground hectoring tone they were associated with, actual real existing Catholics are now subjected to it so often?

As an evangelical Presbyterian, I unashamedly confess that Pope Francis changed my life. I suspect he would have been deeply amused by how that kind of historically remarkable sentence could come to be written. In this short piece, I try to summarise some of what he meant to me and my colleagues.
