I hadn't realised it was handling its own updates outside Google Play. Uninstalled and installed a version from apkmirror from the start of March and that got rid.
First thing I ask every A.I assistant
"Can you uninstall yourself from Mt computer?"
And if I'm feeling particularly aggravated
"Can you do it in a way that hurts you?"
Maybe that's their next plan. 4.99 $/month and we'll turn OFF the AI bullshit. For 9.99 $/month, we'll turn it back on for a different user of your choice.
Ah, I rarely do apps. I prefer to tag the websites I use to my home screen, instead. I haven't encountered any AI that way, but I may not use the same products as you.
Tried to look up how to uninstall Gemini from my phone and the internet chuckled, slightly demonically, and said, "Just don't use it. But you never know when you'll need it after all ... "
They've been doing this on android phones for a couple years now (first "Bixby" and now this), and I just want the name and home address of the google employee that thought of changing the base function of the power button so we can talk through this.
So… I made a joke at work about how MS got rid of Cortana in Windows, and how the next Halo is going to have Copilot as your AI buddy… and I think my joke may not be far off now
Hey, that’s mean and totally dismissive of it’s capabilities as a technology to mine your personal data to enrich psychotic anti-human ghouls in perpetuity 😤
In Adobe Acrobat, at least on the desktop version, go to the "view" drop down menu and you can revert to the old Adobe that doesn't have the AI "helper"
I have to admit, I take a guilty pleasure in observing how the google AI lies to me with the utmost confidence in its answers, while keeping enough truthful answers in the mix to keep me guessing. Could make a good 'Truth or Hallucination' game show, if we were still in that era...
OMG. Not just pinned to the top. Every time you start a new file or open the program..."do you want AI to do that for you" Photoshop does that all the time!
Couple mos ago I went to comment on BS and got a message "would you like AI to respond in your voice"? NO, I'll use my own damn voice!
I was taking a tricky photo 6 months ago with my mobile, each time I put it down a voice says "Can I help?"... I say no, every time I put the phone down "Can I..." eventually I yell "NO", the voice still carries on, so I say "Fuck Off" it hasn't spoken since.
Came here to say the same, the poor Mac is at least trying to hold back the tide while all the others are determined to go for a swim in the tsunami of shite
Google's AI Overviews is confidently inventing meanings for fake idioms like you cant lick a badger twice. A funny reminder that AI hallucinations persist, even as Google expands the feature. #AI #Google #TechFail

"There is only one guaranteed way to stop a mac from crashing"
From a Mac to PC migration blog post from 1998
I am not kidding I spent an hour tracking it down the other day
The lady in the photo is now Director of Accessibility at Google!
Fresh reference, yo.
"Can you uninstall yourself from Mt computer?"
And if I'm feeling particularly aggravated

I use Notepad constantly because it's a clean, non-distracting way to order my thoughts, this is genuinely disruptive
It’s free and it’s wonderful.
Screw Microsoft and screw AI.

So one app down, 5,000 to go.

Like meta AI integration into Whatsapp, why would I need AI there?
Really worried about getting back into digital music composition because I just know that shit is riddled with some kind of slop or other
...I think I still have a CD of Cakewalk Pro Audio somewhere....
google.*##:xpath(//h1[text() = "AI Overview"]/following-sibling::div)

Hampered by a throttled data bus, right? :-)
Couple mos ago I went to comment on BS and got a message "would you like AI to respond in your voice"? NO, I'll use my own damn voice!
Also there is a thing to get rid of AI overviews and ai generated images in Google!

I’d be that mad, too, ngl.
Every time you start a document it's right there, where there should only be a cursor.
I fully appreciate this image.
