I may have slightly exaggerated on the d pairings number

Shot over 50% from the floor and with only two offensive boards.

He’s not first line talent. If he gets back to how he was playing in 21-22 then I’d happily eat my words.

They really kind of have to. But I get a feeling that maybe they get another goalie just in case Levi isn’t ready and that’s about it.

Huge one. If healthy he could take a huge step.

I wasn’t sure 100%…. Should have looked that up

If they keep Byram, I am interested to see what they do, if anything, to bolster their forwards. It's coming down to the fact we are going to have to view how the offseason goes through the prism of the Byram deal.

If they retain Byram, that pretty much takes them out of the running on any of these free agents unless they move Samuelsson and then a forward (Greenway?) or two, they will trim something around the edges.
Will they actually spend to the cap? I doubt it.

Just random guesses on RFAs:
McLeod is probably 5 mil, Kozak is under a mil, Timmins is probably 2 mil, Bernard Docker is probably 2ish mil, and Levi, I think the projection was at like 1.5…. This puts them at about 8-9 mil open before Byram.

Free Agency: Sure. I mean. Whatever. It could happen. Of the candidates: Marner, Bennett, Ehlers, and Boeser…. Maybe Pius Suter… They are all under 30. The Sabres have 5 RFA with 20.8 million left on the cap.

Beyond Byram, I don’t know what other realistic trade assets they have that could bring in a top-six forward. A middle-six forward and an array of prospects doesn’t seem likely.

Trade: Move Byram + to bring in a forward. This right now seems like the most realistic, hearing the market has softened, and losing the draft asset makes me feel like the odds of this happening are reduced. I feel like this is a coin flip right now.

Since the draft has passed us by, the number nine pick is no longer an asset in play, which reduces the avenues where they can improve their top six. So, what is realistically left out there for them?

That said, they still lack top-six talent up front. I joked the other day that they have 14 middle-six forwards on the team, and the sad thing is that isn’t far off. Aside from Thompson and possibly Tuch, depending on your feelings on him, they don’t have any other first-line talent up front.

Wow, what a disappointment. Like, grind some tape once in a while.
I'm sure you can get his games on like Betamax or something.

Byram is the other big one if they keep him.

They have like 21 mil.
McLeod probably 5?
Kozak under a mil
Timmins probably 2?
Bernard Docker probably 2?
Levi I think the projection was at like 1.5

They'll still start the season 5-7 mil under the cap.
Maybe they are saving for McDavid next year.

They get a top six forward out of the Byram trade or whatever move, the pick is great.

I mean, McCarthy was a third-round pick, so his odds were fairly long already. Hope that one of Strbak or Kleber becomes something, and Mrtka pans out to be top four, and I would be pumped.
But yeah, they aren't going 4 for 4 there.

WHAT OTHER FUCKING RESULTS MATTER?

I like that acquisition but what we gave was probably too much. I’m not going to debate the quality of this front office when their track record is what it is. If you want to give them benefit of the doubt that’s on you but they have been indefensible and are until we see results.
