The NIH’s mission is to "to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and the application of that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability."
It can't achieve that mission if the review process becomes hostage to political whims.

The right to say and study what we want is essentially American. But we don’t live in America any longer. We live in a foreign country now. To return, we need to map how far things have gone.

This is why they hate us. It’s not the DEI. It’s not the CRT. It’s quite clearly now not just the liberal arts/humanities, & no amount of appeasement is going to get the far right authoritarian party to stop attacking us. So we may as well at least go down with a fight, loudly defending who we are.
