I’ve never admired anyone more than Zelenskyy. I can’t imagine how tired he is of begging the world to support a country where genocide takes place every day. Yet he does it, while taking care of his citizens. And being a great husband and dad.

I had a woman who took all my kids’ books about pride off display and threw them in the book drop. Joke’s on her. Any time you throw something in the book drop or hide something, we have to scan it back in. That’s a circ, which means they’re more likely to order more copies.

Congratulations to @kimjohnson.bsky.social, THE COLOR OF A LIE is the winner of The Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction!

I just found out that Coyote Queen has been selected for the 2024 MISelf in Books List! Fud's journey is one that is going to resonate with young readers now more than ever before. Thank you all to the committee members for this honor! #kidlit

Editing a novel can feel daunting, but don’t worry! Finishing your first draft is a huge accomplishment. It can be scary to start the editing process, but it’s also where the real magic happens 🌟 Here are five tips to help you through the process:

The author advice I give that no one follows... Google your books regularly, with "last 24 hours" or "last week" selected. Many major awards and booklists DO NOT TELL YOU you were selected. Publishers give your book a marketing bump when you do, but often only know if YOU TELL THEM.

I had a phenomenal 50th birthday weekend. Let's keep it going. Here's to offers, R&Rs, contracts, and awesome writing news for all of us! Fingers crossed for the ultimate birthday gift - another book deal.

There is magic in going back to stories you shelved. #amrevising #kidlit

Reading = resistance & protest. Read the histories & stories of & by the oppressed: women, minorities, marginalized voices. Learn THESE stories and not those of history's "victors." Collect physical books, which aren't as easily erased as digital copies. #booksky #readingisresistance #indiebookstore

Musk is working on replacing contract workers in the Department of Education with AI chatbots, aiming to use generative AI to handle student and parent inquiries.

This is the way.

⚡ President Zelenskyy reaffirmed that Ukraine will not recognize Russian control over occupied territories, emphasizing that the country’s laws prevent any such concession.

This probably is so vague as to be meaningless, but: good things happened today, too. Good things are still happening, I promise.

GO, Sary and Jen!!! 🙌🙌🙌

A great reminder from @dansavage.bsky.social for those instances where I begin to lose sight of why it’s essential to continue creating and putting art into the world through these uncertain—but assuredly dark—times.

Let’s keep the messaging simple… Hugs to all those feeling overwhelmed. You are not alone ❤️

The world needs kindness more than ever so I'm thrilled at this announcement for @mnwendell.bsky.social!

There are a lot of great small publishers! There are also plenty that writers should steer clear of. In my Ask the Agent Question of the Day, I talk about red flags to look out for when evaluating publishers. www.tumblr.com/literaticat/...

This is infuriating. NASA history is one of my obsessions. I desperately have begged children’s publishing to do more in this space. And I’m told “Kids don’t care about space.” How about we PRESERVE some history for kids before it is erased? And it’s still an agenting dream to rep an astronaut.

Sending a prayer and a wish out into the world. Please read and understand History. Think. Ask questions, then Think again. No one can do it for you.
