The US are on fire, and with it both NATO and UN, but it only makes it obvious: the old system of war prevention doesn't work. This whole "never again war" doesn't work, it fails again and again. Maybe it's better to start thinking about it sooner rather than later. For anti-war countries to unite?

All that pain.

This is a WILD list of data to disappear. I was braced for climate stuff, but not, like, shoreline maps and coastal bathymetry

HOLY SHIT! This might be the coolest thing ever.

The current autism narrative is toxic. Autism is a spectrum, from quirky to annoying to painful to tragic. Finding ways to help ppl with autism is a noble goal. (RFKJ is obviously an evil asshole, but that's a separate story) Still researching autism _well_ isn't eugenics, it's a false equivalency.

Another amoral business plan...

1. Cool fun game 2. Nice test of synthetic knowledge 3. Police states have it now

Of course bunker living isn’t a new phenomenon, but rdg this article, in relation to the one below — which talks about urban dvlpmt catering to an expansion of defense contractors — *and* all the news about private prisons metastasizing across the landscape, makes me mourn for the public realm

til Marxist is not the only way to refer to the works of Karl Marx; for everything that is not political people use "Marxian". So there's both Marxist and Marxian! It's like Platonic vs Platonist, only even more subtle

The thing that's remarkable about this statement (which is the most succinct way to express what many people have been trying to say) is that it is both very obvious and very subtle. It's subtle until you get it (however quickly that may be), and obvious after you do.

And the National Solar Observatory's network of solar telescopes đź” ("GONG") continues to monitor the Sun for potentially dangerous solar flares and coronal mass ejections (NSO is funded by the US National Science Foundation)

ZELENSKYY DIDN'T START SHIT, RUSSIA INVADED

Minimalistic bifurcation :) import matplotlib.pyplot as plt f = lambda x,k,a: (x if k==0 else f(a*x*(1-x), k-1, a)) y = [f(.21, 17 + i % 19, 2.5+1.5*i/10000) for i in range(10000)] plt.plot(y,'.',markersize=1);

More in No, Other People: New poll: “America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.” • 80% of Americans agree • 20% disagree “I would be better off if I worked in a factory.” • 25% of Americans agree • 73% disagree • 2% currently work in a factory

I try to keep away from politics on bsky and restrict it to twitter, but the corruption is now so blatant. This is just so fucking sick and horrible. federalnewsnetwork.com/agency-overs...

How many times have I passed up stopping in a store when I was in a car. All the hassles-parking-dealing with other cars. With children endless buckling & unbuckling & reinserting in strollers. In a pedestrian/cycling zone you need only seduce me into your shop with a single interesting object!

(Buzz, gesturing broadly:) It's false positives, false positives everywhere!..

NEW 🧵 The number of people travelling from Europe to the US in recent weeks has plummeted by as much as 35%, as travellers have cancelled plans in response to Trump’s policies and rhetoric, and horror stories from the border. Story: www.ft.com/content/6dc1...

Living in a dark blue country is a gift. Defending functioning democratic institutions is a worthy use of your time. Strengthening democracy in the light blue countries is a must too. Establishing a democracy in a red country is a massive challenge since autocracies use technology to great avail.

A week ago russia hit a playground in Kryvyi Rih, killing 9 children. That's something they do casually, regularly, just to keep it going I will never judge someone in russia for not marching to the main square to be arrested, eliminated. But ppl who make a buck on trading with ru support murder

as someone who in hindsight might have had an autism diagnosis as a kid under current practices this tracks: “We’re diagnosing autism 10 to 50 times more now than we were 25 years ago. The advance in paternal age is only responsible for around 1 percent of that whole effect…”

It’s not about efficiency: “the budget would continue support for ongoing missions … it would kill the much-anticipated Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, an observatory seen as on par with those two world-class instruments that is already fully assembled and on budget for a launch in two years.”

A large study in Sweden found levels of autism *symptoms* were constant over time, even as autism *diagnoses* increased (implying broadening diagnostic criteria rather than real underlying increase) www.bmj.com/content/350/...
