Called it.

Tufts University petitions a federal judge to release student Rümeysa Öztürk, who was grabbed off the street by immigration officials. The move is some of the strongest public pushback by a school against the Trump administration's arrests of foreign students.

I’m not going to read your “how to defeat fascism” post if it’s on Substack, a platform that actively supports fascists.

We just received notice from the California State Library that our grant funding from IMLS has been terminated. I'm not sharing the whole document. But, that's over 15M in funds that go to local libraries in CA for literacy and public programs for economically disadvantaged communities. 1/3

To those who claim Gazans aren’t real—look at the comments ⬇️ These are my friends, real people who know me, who stand by me. My existence isn’t up for debate. I’m not a bot, not propaganda, not a number on your screen.I am here.We are here. And no amount of denial will erase us gofund.me/52c3d97f

The key thing to find out is: who _made_ money today?

"Apple’s iOS apps catering to the sugardating, BDSM, and LGBTQ+ communities – where privacy is often paramount– have leaked highly sensitive content, putting users at risk... BDSM People, CHICA, TRANSLOVE, PINK, and BRISH apps had publicly accessible secrets published together with the apps’ code"

Yes. And on a related note, I’m bewildered by how anyone who lived through the original HIV/AIDS epidemic can treat COVID like it’s a cold.

It’s not okay to carelessly spread SARS-CoV-2/COVID—no matter what NPR, the New York Times, or the Atlantic tell you. Resist forced infection. Refuse to be a link in the chain of transmission. Remind yourself to be a caring, responsible member of your community—especially now.

MUST WATCH: Rümeysa Öztürk’s legal team reads her first statement since detention outside of courthouse. The government must immediately release Rümeysa Öztürk from custody. The First Amendment protects all of us — regardless of citizenship status.

once again my strategy of "being too broke to own stocks" pays off

Anyone who supports apartheid anywhere is a threat to you. Especially if you're a melanated person. Because the ideological framework that supports apartheid isn't confined by borders. Those systems of logic are imported and exported everyday.

Hey Democrats, time to check on that scrap of paper

Curtis Yarvin is the ideologue whose ideas are why this is all happening www.politico.com/news/magazin...

People know that ‘free trade’ isn’t real, right?

Really looking forward to Jeff Bezos' forceful public condemnation of Trump's tariffs since he is so committed to "free markets" that he made a rule that every opinion piece published in the Washington Post must support "free markets" For some reason, Bezos hasn't said anything yet. Must be busy.

Even if you have reviewed these kind of checklists before, it is another good day to do it.

March saw the third-highest number of layoffs in U.S. history, and 80% of them were caused by DOGE This was before the tariffs It's just...unbelievable

A Canadian woman flying to the US, and customs spent so much time searching her phone that she missed her flight. They also have an immigration lawyer and tips for those who have to fly to the US. www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0vb...

A must read. His book, American Midnight, should be required reading (gift link) wapo.st/3Rv3haK

ProPublica’s investigative reporters rely on a careful playbook for finding waste, fraud and abuse within government agencies. It bears little resemblance to the approach deployed by DOGE against the Social Security Administration or USAID. By @sengelberg.bsky.social

Restoration Hardware was doing an earnings call when the tariffs hit and I have never related harder to a CEO www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Big Law firms and partners have choices about whether to capitulate or to stand tall. History is watching.

If there were any doubt that oligarchs, the Party, major corporations, and the state form a single unified centrally coordinated repressive apparatus, that doubt must now end

Discworld QOTD, from Snuff “Everyone should occasionally break the law in some small and delightful way, Drumknott. It’s good for the hygiene of the brain.”

Dems would do well to exploit this

Maybe now Columbia can take the brave stance of opposing the kidnapping of their students and staff

the liberals literally ran a bad campaign, were told it was a bad campaign, lost as they were told they'd lose, and want to run the same strategy again because they're incapable of self-reflection no, it's not "just as stupid if you move the nouns around." this is what happened, not a hypothetical.

First federal tariff lawsuit has now been filed. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us... All the lawsuits here: www.courtwatch.news/p/lawsuits-r...

Americans may not comprehend the gravity of our situation, the rest of the world most certainly does. open.substack.com/pub/thebulwa...

CNBC anchors are coping with the possibility that we're now facing something *worse* than a recession. And it's entirely self-inflicted!

My @nehgov.bsky.social grant “In the Shadow of the Holocaust: Short Fiction by Jewish Writers from the Soviet Union” was canceled by “DOGE.” The project doesn’t support "the furtherance of the President's agenda.” Jews surviving genocide: out of step w/ the agenda of using Jews to destroy higher ed.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive. No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief. 1/ A 🧵 to explain his plan and how we fight back.

“There is no railway station called ‘Justice’ that if you catch the right train you get there. Every generation has to fight for their rights.” — Tony Benn, UK parliamentarian, campaigner for justice, and peace, proud radical, who would be 100 today www.thenation.com/article/acti...

Schwarzenegger winning seemed like the most embarrassing thing that would ever happen in politics at the time and now he’s to the left of every elected Republican and a few Democrats and just makes videos going “young men, my fadda was a Nazi and he was a contemptible loosah”

Please ignore tired pieces in publications like the Atlantic that are still trying to stigmatize mask wearing. Wearing a mask to prevent sickness from airborne viruses is a science-informed position, and it has been that way for over 100 years.

Big ups to the Columbia trustees and administrators who convinced these absolute cretins they had the recipe to destroy American higher education.

🚨UPDATE: Rümeysa Öztürk has now suffered three separate asthma attacks while in DHS custody. She has not received her required asthma medications—a violation of her fundamental right to medical care. This is cruelty, it is neglect, and it is a damning moral and legal failure.

“Our governor” [that would be Tim Walz] “likes to say we feed kids here, we don’t ban books. But as the president of the union of educators in St. Francis, I want everyone to know it can happen here.” And these decisions can’t be appealed. Parents, teachers, students have no recourse.

This is catastrophic on so many levels. Archived link: archive.ph/tmra3
