We can absolutely have discussions about the effectiveness of a game's design, whether there's unfulfilled needs in the market to explore, what roles the designer and player have in the game experience, etc

it's very easy to be prescriptive about other people's creative goals or output when they don't do anything to hurt you or the craft. that's not critique--it isn't even *taste*, it's just nastiness. it's better to direct people to explore craft deeply and learn to love more making than to disparage.
