the post caption followed by the headline itself is a great one-two imo. Might not even read the article

It's extremely important to insist upon this. And every time a defender of or apologist for Israel insists otherwise, they undermine this distinction, with grave consequences for the combatting of antisemitism.

If there is currently an extremely large quotient of Israeli society for whom the answer to that is manifestly "no" then that's not indicative of anything to do with some inate character of Jews or Jewishness, but rather of the character and consequences of an enforced and ingrained ethnonationalism

Of course, any sensible fair-minded reading of British media discourse will reveal to you which of these outweighs the other in terms of being institutionally widespread. Worth bearing in mind, through all the noise, whatever your feelings on chants and slogans.

Anyone who allows their disdain for the Israeli military to rationalise a wider, deeper hatred for Jewish people - and they absolutely exist - must be unequivocally shunned. Similarly anyone suggesting these two things are the same is necessarily engaged in the mirror of exactly the same tendency.

"Death to the Russian Armed Forces" might sound crude, but would it be represented as meaning "death to particular groups" in a way that implies racial prejudice? Of course not. It has been the express aim of progressives, moderates and conservatives alike in calling for more arms to Ukraine.

People aren't going to like hearing "death to the IDF", no-one can be surprised about that. But we understand we are talking about an institution engaged very visibly in extreme systematic evil, don't we? The IDF is an occupying military force. It isn't a race, or a creed. We all actually know this.

She also writes infectiously well about being a young woman / teenager, about the heartbreak, longing, confusion, and thrill of it all. Rate her.

And she's just brought on your actual Robert Smith, introducing him as "perhaps the best songwriter to come out of England" and launched into a cover of Friday, I'm In Love. So: game, set and match in this battle of contemporary Glastonbury headliners I've just invented in my head.

The 1975 may be derivative of more interesting music, but they synthesise their influences into something absolutely awful through the sheer power of repellent vibes. Rodrigo on the other hand is straightforwardly good at making fun pop songs with a punky energy. She is good, and they are pish.

and also, if you're concerned about an apparent escalation in rhetoric maybe reflect on what the fuck you thought would happen when you told people chanting basic expressions of solidarity that they were murderous racists for doing so? Did you expect everyone to keep playing nice?

it's far from being the most brass-necked Israeli state PR intervention, but crying foul because of a made up implied ethnic cleansing, while very visibly conducting actually real ethnic cleansing and genocide really does reveal the whole Orwellian heart of the matter

the BBC have essentially Streissand Effect-ed Kneecap from being "those Irish guys who have a song with him from Fontaines D.C. that you sometimes hear on Huw Stephens show" to being the Sex Pistols in 1977
