The US was the sole UN member state to vote NO on a resolution declaring an International Day of Hope

Just like the launch of Sputnik led to massive investments in what we now call STEM education in the States, Canada should use the tariffs crisis as an opportunity to invest in building Canadian excellence in STEM, but also in arts, humanities and social sciences, like it has never done before.

French Senator Claude Malhuret: "Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."

Sign of the day…

The upcoming election in Canada could not be more consequential for our country. One thing for sure. Poilievre would sell us out to his right wing buddies in the US. We need a Prime Minister that will fight for Canada and Canadians.

NEW: A couple days ago, Breakdown host Nate Pike announced that he was being court ordered to wipe the Alberta politics show from the web as part of a libel lawsuit from a well-connected Alberta businessman. This development should concern all journalists. open.substack.com/pub/theorcha...

“Writing is thinking… and feeling… The fact that we ask students to complete so many assignments that a machine could do is a sign that something has gone very wrong with writing instruction.” I’d like to read this book! I see potential in this shift: make writing prompts metacognitive! #edusky

No wonder they’re looking to Canada for water.

This week, approximately 200,000 federal workers have been let go.

It’s official. On Monday, when a whole lot was going on, the UCP quietly removed the ban on coal mining in the Eastern Slopes of the Rockies. The same ban put in place because you, Albertans, spoke out. We need you again. Coal is a threat to us all. A threat to our water. And water is life.

In light of (even more) recent revelations of election interference on the part of foreign governments, here is the contact page for Canadian MPs. www.ourcommons.ca/en/contact-us Demand answers. Demand the leader of the opposition step up and get his security clearance. Make some noise.

Canada, you need to be aware this atrocity is coming your way if the Conservatives get a majority.

One of the most frequent questions I'm asked as a climate scientist is, "what can we do about climate change?" I don't base my answer on the physical science of the climate system, but rather social science of how individuals can most powerfully effect change. I look to research such as this: 🧵

Incredibly well done column in the Ideas section of the Boston Globe by a doctor describing the careful, lengthy, individualized process of treating young people with gender-affirming care. www.bostonglobe.com/2024/03/07/o...

All these people talking about how writing is dead, books are dead. Bullshit. Corporations are attempting to exploit writers and turn them into marketers precisely because writing/books are NOT dead, because writers are good at what they do and people are hungry — will always be hungry—for stories.

Happy large boulder the size of a small boulder day for all who celebrate
