Cuba: “What we’ve just seen this morning is a clear example of the lack of commitment by the United States to a culture of peace, to the United Nations as a whole and to multilateralism in general"

Senator Jeff Merkley: "I wanted to, uh...ask you, Mr. Landau — is President Trump a Russian asset?"
-From Fear and Loathing.
On the other side of the table sat Christopher Landau, Trump’s nominee for Deputy Secretary of State and Matthew Whitaker, a former acting Attorney General…
US objected to DEI language in the text, adding, “In a world that faces many challenges, funding and effort should be allocated to critical causes and crises, rather than International Days.” [which cost zero]

Indeed, the US government is working to End Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. It launched a website to this effect: https://enddei.ed.gov
Efforts to dismantle DEI are not just about policy changes; they signal an intent to erase marginalized communities’ histories, identities, and rights. 1/2
Also, good to note that a volcano ~80 miles east of Anchorage has been in a state of unrest for months now and is being closely monitored for signs of eruption. So, yea, USGS/AVO funding cuts right now are definitely not what I'm advocating for as a citizen of Anchorage 🙃
The Trump Administration masks their incompetence with boring, predictable stunts like this. Professional trolls with zero knowledge, zero experience, and zero skills.
Are we there yet? "The death of human empathy is one of the earliest and most telling signs of a culture on the verge of descending into barbarism.' ~ Hannah Arendt
I just want to let you know how accurate this is. As a Federal employee, I'm so terrified of getting fired and losing the income that supports my family that it has become much harder to be empathetic to others.
I feel it, too. 100% reliance on Social Security retirement payments, so homelessness beckons if the weenie genius screws up or feels especially wicked. But I read an article that spoke to me and I'll find and share it in a sec!
Displaying an unparalleled degree of hypocrisy; the US objects to the on the grounds that funding and effort should be allocated to critical causes and crises, while at the same time slashing its funding of international aid.
🙄
How much would it have cost? Probably nothing
How much time did it take to pass this resolution?
An hour? Maybe add a few to set the whole thing up for the vote and then publicize it
It took nothing away from “effort allocated to critical causes and crises.”
Maybe working for some but not everyone, good to keep in mind that at least for the time being there is real opposition that can change things in the US. It isn't lost. That said, all this does change how we see America...
Indeed. Hope was an antidote to the sufferings under slavery. The hope is that the awfulness will end and better days come. Obviously, the party for legalised child workers and economically enslaved people don’t want hope to live, flourish or survive.
This American votes yes! We are sorry world, our current leaders lack strength of character, compassion, empathy, integrity, morals and intelligence…as do their supporters 😢
Does this mean we still get our day of hope though? Or have the US stuffed it for all of us? I have to say, I absolutely love the idea of an international day to stop and remember we are all people together. That there is more unites that separates us. I hope we get our day of hope🤞
I’m actually glad the rest of the world is finally beginning to see the country of my birth for what it is.
This despite the many decades of propaganda, braggadocious marketing, obnoxious “USA” chants, and cynical use of “soft power” that has intentionally obscured its vast moral shortcomings
The US owes PR and repayment needs to be unconditional. Rebuild their industry, fix the Jones Act, and pass a bill that they can choose separation or statehood on terms the citizens of PR decide.
Him's gonna kick the UN out of the US in 60 days or less at this rate. Him (Trump/Elon/Stephen) want to punish New York City for not loving thim. Figure this out, please.
In abandoning hope, US Gov. signals, “We do not want the future to get better. We do not want improvement. We want conditions to worsen.” What is the opposite of hope, despair? Does the #USA now favor disunity and international despair then as it opposes its own membership in the #UN and #NATO?
Who is the person casting the vote and did Trump appoint them? It always shocks me so many people are cowards & just fall in line quietly with fascism.
Classic propaganda for what theologian Walter Brueggemann called ‘royal consciousness.’
Hope is irrelevant when you already live in the ‘best of all possible worlds.’
We still haven't agreed to ban landmines, a tactically useless weapon that primarily kills children years after wars end. Just in case anybody thinks this is some new stance towards the UN. We've always been exactly like this in regard to UN treaties.
Some of us want to be and are so f'ing angry and embarrassed by our fellow stupid, ugly Americans who voted for this. But you're right- the US govt is a rogue govt hell bent on either isolation or carving up the world with Putin, et al.
So when is the new International Day of Hope so I can celebrate it despite my country not recognizing it? (Or if it turns out to be popular, they'll pretend to have been in support of it all along)?
Well to be fair, it shouldn’t be too surprising that a nation hellbent on a forced shift toward white nationalism is against hope. Especially hope celebrated internationally.
I've been comparing musk to Lex Luthor for his callous ambition. But trump's soullessness and black heart (not to mention dead eyes & evil-looking signature), have me calling him Beelzebub.
The US also voted against puppies, raindrops on roses, soft kisses, the hanging curveball, an amendment outlawing astroturf and opening presents on Christmas Day instead of Christmas Eve. Suck it world!

It's just a mention of diversity, equity, or inclusion.
The US objected to diversity.

Please take the time to spell out what the Administration and MAGA crowd actually oppose.
🙄
https://docs.un.org/A/79/L.54
I'm assuming these are the phrases the US is objecting to:
- "promote peace, tolerance, inclusion"
- "need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach"
- "respect for diversity"
Pretty evil & inflammatory stuff 🙃

I believe our ‘president’ is trying to make the U.S. the most hated country on the planet.
Watch, on Monday there will be an EO officially banning ‘hope’ & similar phony feelings for failure to align with the MAGA agenda.

“Hope is woke 😠😠”
Just the most embarrassing and petty behaviour from the biggest snowflake administration.
But to be fair… the majority of sane Americans don’t have much hope these days.
WTF?

Then again, after his re-election, I lost hope for the USA anyway....
Russia, China, North Korea, Hungary, Iraq and Iran voted for it.
And we're supposed to be the greatest Christian country in the world?

If Russia and China both vote for something along with the rest of the world, and you don't, you need to take a good hard look at yourself
