Dhaliwal has had two brothers murdered in the gang conflict - Harb was gunned down in Vancouver in 2021 and Meninder was killed in Whistler in 2022.

Dhaliwal, 41, was arrested yesterday, IHIT said in a release. Charges are: possession of a loaded firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

That's a different issue than the "not criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder" one - which happens only if it's found he had no ability to determine right from wrong while committing the crime. It's a high threshold and the defence has to prove it.

People I interviewed say high-profile cases skew the public's perspective on these cases. It could be important that the accused appeared to say "sorry" after people apprehended him.
