6. Party leaders tend to believe that the Democrats can win back trust by compromising – by moving to the middle on things like trans right. But if they won’t fight for the authority of Congress, which is the only authority they have, why would anyone trust them to fight for them?

Melissa loved her caucus and fought hard for them and Minnesotans. The world lost a great human being today and a great leader. (2/2)

Side note: Tulsa’s Greenwood District is an historic “freedmen’s town” or “freedom colony,” a community built by formerly enslaved people. While these communities were established in a number of states, many are in Texas, with Houston’s Fourth Ward a notable example.

Survivors worked to rebuild the Greenwood District, but it never returned to its former status. For decades, the massacre was misrepresented as a race riot and the white community barely acknowledged that it took place. /end

The white rioters burned some 35 city blocks and shot unarmed Black citizens. As many as 300 people were killed. By the time the National Guard arrived, the Greenwood District lay in ruins. The white community resented the Greenwood District, contributing to the massacre. /4

A white mob gathered seeking to lynch Rowland. About 75 Black men arrived on the scene, some carrying weapons. When a white man tried to disarm a Black WWI veteran, chaos ensued. Thousands of whites poured into the Greenwood District, referred to then as Black Wall Street. /3
