My kids aren't future, they're adult.
Kids' concerns and problems, even when they're childish, are serious and real and valid to them. I promised myself I would treat my kids' childish concerns and problems that way, which my parents didn't. I didn't always succeed, but I tried.

I've criticized the US my whole life because I'm a patriot. I've never said a harsh word about, say, Belgium. I know nothing about it and care even less.

Some generational stuff has always been there. I had a co-worker, maybe 22, very pop-culturally savvy. This was maybe 1997, so I'm ~34. Monoculture was starting to fracture but was largely intact.
They'd never heard of Mary Tyler Moore.
That was kind of a first but I started noticing it a lot.
