Props to the first blue state governor who says that if the government has concluded that Supreme Court decisions are no longer binding, they do not feel bound by Texas v. White.

Remarkable story—a whistleblower claims DOGE operatives appeared to delete records of their activity on NLRB systems, that he observed network traffic consistent with data exfiltration, and that drone photos of him walking his dog were taped to his door after he raised concerns

This is what judges should be doing right now. If the Trump administration is going to insist that it can’t bring back anyone once they’re removed, then federal judges should put the brakes on any and all removals until the *full* legal process—to ensure the removals are valid—has run its course.

Cowardice *and* courage are contagious

I am sorry to say it, but this is probably one of the most important things you can repost today.

if they knuckle under for this their legitimacy is shattered, to the point that I'm not sure that district judges will still be bound in practice. If SCOTUS starts seesawing every which way in a web of contradictory John Robertsian evasions it effectively makes federal law Choose Your Own Adventure.

They need to start ending these threads with actions. Ones they’re taking. Ones they will take. Ones we should take. People want action. Be a leader!

master class in headline accuracy

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

every protest or march or action shows people that if they act, others will have their back. it may not be a 100% credible signal or guarantee, but it's a signal.

There we go. Support this man.

Today the Trump administration is openly defying *two* court decisions (at least) — SCOTUS in the Abrego Garcia case and Judge McFadden (a Trump appointee) in the Associated Press case. There was a stay pending appeal in the AP case, but it ended yesterday. apnews.com/article/trum...

when fucking Ritchie Torres is capable of doing this...

going to need to start hearing from governors what they intend to do to protect residents of their states from the federal government

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

Yes. Defeatist = complying in advance = appeasement = cowardice.

An attempt to annotate this excellent thread of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence with recent headlines.

Trump wants to send citizens merely accused of crimes to foreign prisons where he can claim the U.S. has no jurisdiction to bring you back, even after the judiciary orders it. Once that happens even a single time, nothing will stop ICE from doing the same thing to you that they did to Abrego Garcia

DC Bar members: I am supporting Diane Seltzer for DC Bar President when voting opens tomorrow April 15 - she is running against Pam Bondi’s brother Brad Bondi. Please make sure you vote for the rule of law and for Diane Seltzer.

It's cowardice, full stop.

Someone found a spine? *HARVARD REJECTS PROPOSED AGREEMENT WITH TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

I’m curious what Ross Douthat and Bari Weiss are up to. I’m sure they’re deeply concerned.

The Supreme Court might want to clearly establish it still has some power by explicitly *ordering* Trump to return people from El Salvador before its rulings becoming polite suggestions

To every large law firm that has made or is contemplating making a “deal” with this administration: These are the kinds of actions and policies your nearly $1 billion in free legal counsel will be supporting. This is what your firms will be known for.

I feel like “President of the United States suggests he would deport American citizens to prisons in El Salvador” should be fairly big news

We are beyond a constitutional crisis at this point. Roberts #SCOTUS needs to clearly spell out how the Trump regime must put on a full court press to bring back Garcia. Otherwise, we are looking at a constitutional collapse in the United States.

The proposed Senate budget resolution would add almost 4x more to the debt than the first TCJA and 3x more than Biden’s covid-relief bill.

"If you were Chris Krebs, would you flee the country?" Would you answer change if Trump faces no consequences for disappearing Kilmar Abrego Garcia? www.thebulwark.com/p/bukele-abr...

Despite a Supreme Court order directing the US to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia The Trump administration apparently refuses to take any action When does the judge order Secretary of State Marco Rubio into court to explain why he won’t obey How long before he’s held in contempt

MAGA terrorists have struck again, not content to just send pipe bombs to try to carry out mass political assassinations, or to simply settle for their traitorous assault on the capitol. This is why they need to be treated like the violent fascist enemies they are.

Also very strange - I haven’t read a lot of statement from elected and/or political elites today expressing concern about anti semitism today. Wonder why?

Normally if someone tries to kill a governor, the president is briefed, calls the governor, and issues a statement committing resources to bringing perps to justice. It’s not just that we don’t expect Trump to be kind—we have to wonder if he’ll allow a real investigation at all.

Yesterday they refused to answer two of the three questions ordered. Today's refuses to address, in any way, all three. None of this has anything to do with the order. This is open defiance of a district court backed by a unanimous three-judge circuit ruling and a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court ruling.
