Good night.

Ok it was never a buyout, but also the idea that they could stay home and not work and get paid through September was always ridiculous so if this is vaguely true I wouldn’t be surprised.

Canada has never been more united

“We are firing every teacher and replacing them with AI” probably polls at 12% but congrats to the teachers who voted MAGA.

Is that bad

❤️

Actually it’s nothing.

Dear Democratic Party: why are you not screaming this from every rooftop? Why are you not holding press conferences with these poor fired people - putting a face on what the richest man is destroying?

I’ve been immersed in close slow reading of liberation theologian Dorothee Soelle’s The Silent Cry; Mysticism and Resistance - & writing through it here: I’ll post the second essay of this subscription later tonight when I’ve actually written it Sure to be fairly poorly proofread as always

This was the Project 2025 plan all along.

PLEASE read this article if you are unfamiliar with the book, “Unhumans.” This is a great explanation of how the language of enmity, hate &genocide has been &is being systematically used by MAGA to dangerously manipulate &brainwash the American people through lies &fear. They are modern day NAZIS.

I swear people think “illegal immigrant” means someone who has a criminal record

I’m not sure if I should laugh or cry. www.borowitzreport.com/p/trump-name...

Every Republican on the Senate Budget Committee (Lindsey Graham, Chuck Grassley, Mike Crapo, Ron Johnson, Roger Marshall, John Cornyn, Mike Lee, John Kennedy, Pete Ricketts, Bernie Moreno, & Rick Scott) voted today in committee for Vought. www.politico.com/live-updates...

a not insignificant number of media people should be reflecting on their role in elevating rufo to this level of prominence. he couldn't have done it alone.

biden did a lot of great things on policy. he and the party sucked on politics. they didnt publicize their wins nor did they position the gop as the opposition to progress. instead they kept quiet and talked about bipartisanship and their good friends. it was a miserable failure.

If all the Post and Times employees with consciousness quit to form a new newspaper that would hold fascism to account — well that would be a hell of a newspaper.

Three Republican justices on the North Carolina Supreme Court made it very clear tonight that they intend to steal a seat on their court for a Republican candidate who lost by 734 votes. Their opinions are pure Stop the Steal insanity. The 4th Circuit needs to intervene immediately. rb.gy/nqceab

Laugh all you want, he’s never willingly leaving office

I have thoughts on Hegseth's confirmation but for now I'll just say @katz.theracket.news is right.

Thread of a few Bulwark articles about the new defense secretary. First, this from @tlecaque.bsky.social and @ardenthistorian.bsky.social: "The story that emerges from Hegseth's [tattoos] is a familiar one; it provides a veritable checklist of today's Christian nationalist folklore." (Nov. 14)

One voice can be very very loud. And by being so, it can inspire others to speak up too.

I am going to bed but I would still love to hear from anyone inside NIH who would like to chat. DM for signal. This is all very bad.

President Trump fired 17 inspectors general, the internal watchdogs who monitor federal agencies, on Friday night, capping a week of dramatic shake-ups of the federal bureaucracy with a focus on loyalty to the president. (NYT confirming WashPost) www.nytimes.com/2025/01/24/u...
