Looking at the chaos of the last 6 weeks and the polling numbers, it’s pretty clear the democratic response isn’t landing well. Reasonable minds will obviously differ on what should be emphasized/lacking. Healthy to talk about it.

Is it now the prevailing wisdom that a competent, experienced person who actually is well versed and knowledgeable on our history and current domestic and foreign issues can’t be elected? That may be true. But it’s incredibly sad.

Bernie Sanders has been in Congress for 35 years. His signature legislative achievement is probably naming a post office.

Obviously 2026 incredibly important. I think Josh Shapiro would be very difficult to beat.

I understand they walked it back. But what other explanation could there be? This is blatantly illegal. State coercion with no rational basis.

It certainly doesn’t hurt.

I’m a voter. I don’t need a celebrity candidate. I don’t need a Tik Tok savant. I don’t need someone who has to scream to make a point. I’m drawn to character, honesty, intelligence, experience, good ideas with a reasonable plan to achieve them. And respectfully, it’s about more than just me.

This is one overarching issue. They aren’t actually passing anything. Just letting the executive usurp their authority. Much less to muck up. Why the judicial branch so crucial right now.

I certainly agree that a little coordination would be welcome. It’s a torrential downpour of dishonesty, dishonor and corruption. I would think vast majority could agree on three persuasive themes and coordinate the massive conveyance of those.
comment in response to

Isn’t that a bit unreasonable? It’s a very large group of people. They don’t believe the same thing or agree on every issue. And that’s ok. I agree messaging could be better. Get to districts, get on all media, traditional and non. Lead with facts. A leader will emerge.

Jim Himes is outstanding on house intel committee.

I’m as angry as anyone. But I’m more concerned with what someone says and does than whether they scream it or not. We need adults. And that can be someone in their 20’s or 70’s. But adults.

Not sure who “you people” are. Republicans have a 3 seat majority in house. 3. Medicaid, Social Security, cancer research….those are kind of popular in swing districts. I can hold my own in American civics. Thanks.

Respectfully, if that’s the assignment, I’ve diagnosed the problem. Assignment should be recognize that our country quickly becoming a laughing stock. A country unable to beat back corruption and mendaciousness. Goal is hold the line. make a case to squeeze that slim repub majority.

What legislative proposal do you suggest?
comment in response to

What legislative response do you propose? Out of the bad options, as far as tonight goes, would have advised not showing and filling as many seats as possible with scientists, FBI agents, park rangers, veterans, etc who have been needlessly insulted by an unserious President who works for them.
comment in response to

Why?
comment in response to

Probably because it’s childish and doesn’t solve anything. I’m not sure if they are allowed to do this, but personally I think a good visual would be to give all their seats to fired scientists, FBI agents, veterans, park rangers, etc.

It’s a relatively simple concept (I understand there are significant complexities in the details). But the concept simple. You want to strengthen your ally’s hand and weaken the adversary, forcing THEM to the table. Not the other way around.

What is there to negotiate. Russia staged an unprovoked invasion of a sovereign country. To “denazify” them I recall. They’ve stolen land and hundreds of thousands have died as a result. What would be a just result? Keep what they stole and claim victory? Russia could end this anytime. Go home.

A laughably unfair piece by Politico. Why should an ally have to put up with this? It’s one constant excuse for Trump. Vance saw it as a provocation”. Saw what? What did he say in second language deserving that fact free, bombastic response? I mean, whining about conscription? We had a draft.
comment in response to

What will get completely lost is Trump saying maybe Putin broke agreements with past Presidents, maybe not. “I don’t’ know”. I’m sorry. You don’t know? You don’t know who you are dealing with? The incompetence is staggering.

One of the finest actors of all time. Such a tremendous loss but we were all the beneficiaries of his amazing work. RIP.

Completely consistent with “common sense”. The incompetence is astounding.

Imagine a best man at a wedding. The toast. He looks at the groom, says I won’t associate with you again due to your fashion sense and taste in film. That’s what Vance did to our allies. An embarrassing, stupid speech in wrong venue. Our interests abroad advanced how? Taxpayer waste anyone?

What branch is that?
comment in response to

The notion that needlessly insulting your allies has no consequence is not just amateur hour. It's plum stupid. You want to cry about taxpayer funds? How did these speech advance American FP? What did you hope to accomplish with this? Yale should consider a refund.

Well obviously if you would no longer enjoy the game, it’s done. My only point was that cultural events and venues are yours as much as anyone else. You’d likely find grifters, felons, sex offenders at every sporting event. If Donald Trump and the coverage too nauseating, I get it.

So the rest of the world is on notice. Nothing from the State Department can be trusted as fact. Any idea that the State Department could serve as kind of a diplomatic janitor for the President’s unhinged, fact free rants has been rebuffed. Outstanding start Secretary Rubio.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this administration folds by Tuesday. History would say Donald Trump will do what’s in his nature. Fold like a cheap suit and pretend he got what he wanted. But this isn’t a card game. It’s people’s lives and a nation’s honor.

Maduro wants what every dictator wants. To stay a dictator. He gets the regional hegemon to appear to hint at legitimacy and almost certainly eviscerate the Organization of American States pressure campaign to oust him. He gives 6 imprisoned Americans and takes back his own people.

The primary criticism of DEI policies is the perceived lack of emphasis on qualifications and merit. Examine the resumes of Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel. Compare them to their corresponding last three predecessors.
comment in response to

To take Kash Patel at his word, he didn't remember meeting a virulent anti-semite irrespective of appearing on the man's own podcast eight times. Even after being provided his name. That's evidence of a pretty signifiant cognitive problem. Or Kash Patel is a shameless liar.

At minimum RFK Jr., defend your absurd theories. Don’t pull this “I didn’t say that”, or I just quoted this or posted that. Be a man. Not some pathetic charlatan.
