Fallout is probably objectively better & more cathartic than Dead Reckoning but I just love the slapstick vibe of the latter I probably enjoy more of Final Reckoning than Rogue Nation too but the former is just big picture a lot more frustrating

great to see Ed Harris as a curmudgeonly admiral even if we needed 30 more mins of him

the opening Right Stuff riff looks so fucking good, not sure the rest of the film quite hits those highs

assumed from the marketing this would be a one scene cameo, genuinely a bit delighted he became MVP (after Tramell ofc)

I don't really have much to add re the stodgy (tho not disastrous) first hour & the thrilling following two, but I did find the final scene a little frustratingly rote. could have been lifted straight from Ghost Protocol or Rogue Nation, not your big climactic entry

unlike you, Lineker dared to speak up about the daily incineration and starvation of thousands of children. Lineker risked his reputation by publicly opposing genocide. You just write worthless snarky words & never risked anything in your life.

I feel like this movie is probably objectively worse than the tighter Fallout but it's much my vibe, prefer MI when it has a lighter touch

I know some people are down on Atwell in this but I personally dig the whole "jewel thief in way over her head / next IMF recruit" vibe

Ilsa's death would really work less badly in a movie that wasn't already sidelining her

I will always be a sucker for action heroes being made to drive around silly little toy cars

(if only this movie was lit like Red October. Jan de Bont you are missed)

I forgot this movie opens with extended riff on Hunt for Red October. Even down to the language shift!
