A friend of my partner’s makes this whenever we go to visit. She very much loves making it and sharing it (and telling her very favourite stories about connecting with folks through it). Chances seem good I’ll be eating it before the month is out!

Looks like Odin ships now! The other option might be worldcat.org, where the person could look up whether a book Odin has, is in a nearby public or university library.

I don’t know of a specific book, but I do know the first place I’d go to look for it or ask about it is Odin on Broadway in Vancouver. m.odinbooks.com/index.php?co...

This article is a pretty even handed take. For things a machine can do, hand-washing does turn out to be less efficient. https://www.thekitchn.com/dishwasher-vs-hand-washing-23609787

I feel the same way about the maps showing Tesla Takedown events. I assume most of us are not protesting because we have too much else to do, like finding non-American non-dairy creamers and such.

I wonder how agriculture producers would feel about retooling / changing their production practices to comply with EU standards… for those that haven’t already that is, I suspect some must have done so voluntarily 🤔

Taking side will feel relatively easy right now. There will be slogans and multi-year military spending plans that feel far away.
By this time next year, it will feel much harder, and there will be many more social divisions created.
This will affect our quality of life in the west. Full stop.

When I was a teenager I had a major surgery (full general anesthetic) where the preparation materials warned me, “You may lose your appetite for the first few days afterwards,” …and it didn’t cross my mind for a single second.

Definitely not an excuse not to pay for the coverage we want to see, for sure!

Frankly, it needs all our help — but mostly we need to meaningfully reward it when it shows courage in the choices it makes. Here’s hoping they somehow use this as a learning moment and/or someone can give a good précis of a history book on the topic…

And we can see precisely how and why those cries to defund the CBC seem to be so entangled with fomenting support for ascendency of political strongmen. Being able to relate to each other as peers in non-extractive, non-combative and convivial ways really messes with the idea that bullying works.

It isn’t mentioned much anymore, it seems - the existence of so many Canadian government funded media and arts organizations is predicated on a desire to continually establish, defend and define a distinct Canadian identity.
The Internet has eroded this, but it clearly still matters to us.

I’ll entertain the argument that it was a tradeoff between that and the Kanopy / e-book borrowing privileges I regularly use and abuse. But I don’t think it’s out of pocket to say it does a number on our civic life.

My parents were in a restaurant in a mall in Richmond and also felt nothing. Interesting how the dynamics work!

(And whether or not backing is the right word compared to, say, steering, is actually something I need to look into - I’ve not actually been super clear on how development of Mastodon is funded.)

It is at the protocol level but much less in practice compared to Masto/Fediverse. I know folks who have accounts on their own servers. The governance models are different, especially now that Masto is being transitioned to having an EU-based non-profit backing future development.
