Don’t forget the political (attempted) assassinations.

I wonder how many billions with a B they will continue to profit from people who would’ve benefited from actual medical advances that they’ll prevent from becoming accessible.
Anyways, fuck rfk jr and prasad and all these self-interested, dumb as rocks, scam artists.

Now who stands to benefit? I find it funny (not haha funny) that the MAHA movement and wellness industry have long accused big pharma and the gov. of withholding cures for cancers, chronic illness, etc. And now those ideologues are in charge of approving the closest things we’ve had to cures yet.

What subpopulation has worse outcomes/prognosis for SLE? Black women.
Noticing the pattern? Removing these subject matter experts and installing ideological loyalists is going to harm groups that have historically been failed by medicine.

As for cellular therapies, CAR-T therapy is the shining beacon on the hill. B cell targeting CAR-Ts are currently being trialed for use in autoimmune diseases such as SLE (Lupus). Who does SLE disproportionately affect? Women.

When thinking of gene therapies, my brain first goes to the CRISPR therapies for sickle cell anemia. What group is predominantly affected by this disease? People of African Ancestry.

Obviously there’s the attack on science and subject matter experts, but this feels extra icky when you think about who has the most to gain or lose from gene and cellular therapies.

This is wrong. His beliefs more closely align with the terrain or cellular theory of health. It’s basically prosperity gospel for health.

One labor union’s fight is all labor unions’ fight. Solidarity is the biggest thing we can do right now.

4 hours of “it’s a small world” is not even enough to explain chasing at high speed and almost running your side piece off the road on Angeles Crest hwy after she denied your call because she chose not to answer with her young and impressionable niece in the car. Loon isn’t a strong enough word.

It would be nice to have a social media (thinking specifically IG) account to post each of these so that people can easily share.

Nah this is a big deal and will cripple any research that remains after loosing any federal funding losses. Just one kit I buy for my lab costs just about $5k. Being tax exempt for purchases like that adds up really fast.

As a lab manager without a graduate degree, I’d argue I’m even more “normal” that your childish grad students. Even I know UMAP isn’t niche and hoping someone who can decide the fate of grant funding should know its validity as an analytic tool isn’t childish. I feel sorry for your students.

What exactly do you think qualifies as a “regular scientist”?

This is why they are criminalizing abortion and not just making it inaccessible. Criminal conviction = loss of voting rights. Look at the long term disenfranchisement that resulted from the war on drugs.

You must be new to the Rachel Cohen universe. She’s always been this ethical.

I haven’t seen her here yet but she is on TikTok. She has spoken at length about subjects like this since she was still in law school. Her morals and conviction haven’t wavered once.

I second that on the family thing. They don’t even understand that I’m at risk of losing my job much less the bigger implications of losing the research.

I’m not arguing for fun. I honestly want to know how you think we should do this since you suggested it.

In all seriousness though, a lot of scientific terms are already Latin based. And beyond that what’s your plan for when they start taking down old papers with mRNA or whatever keyword? Change every website and pdf published to code words? You’re also assuming we could decide on a uniform set.
comment in response to

Really? I hadn’t heard anything about that even though I depend on federal grants for my research on Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and its genetic causes to determine why it disproportionately affects women generally and specifically women of African ancestry. (100% sarcasm that I haven’t heard).

What do you propose we use as a “code word” for something so specific? Do we rename ribonucleic acid? Don’t forget that you’ll need a system the accurately and succinctly differentiates miRNA, siRNA, tRNA, rRNA etc? Do we change the names of the nucleotides while we’re at it? And DNA too?

Yes, a pregnancy crisis center / pregnancy resource center is a specific thing and definitely does not include PP.

Switched back to using my updated pride flag lanyard for my work id in opposition to the VA email last week about no flags other than the US or POW/MIA flags at desks or even as bumper stickers in the parking garage. They can pry it from my cold, dead, ally neck.
