Review of applications begins Feb 15 for TWO 2-yr VAP positions, open area. Davidson offers amazing students and colleagues!

People are weird. When looking at a photo a second time, they rate it as closer even though it is identical to what they saw first. This is called boundary extension & our team found it happens in East Asian samples, as it does in Western samples. Open access: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Former thesis student, now GS, Zizhan Barry Yao has first-author pub. We surveyed over 1500 adults in US and mainland China about their nation’s past and future. Question framing, culture, and age affect ratings. #collectivememory #collectivefuturethought Online at link.springer.com/article/10.3...

Oh, what a beautiful morning!

Just muted the “announcers” and my enjoyment of this basketball game has noticeably increased. Highly recommend.

Rhodes scholar has a “burning question that drives her: How can we bridge divides and cultivate connections with each other despite our differences?” CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes with your important work! www.davidson.edu/news/2024/11...

For several iterations of my upper level research methods course, students add their own personal learning objective and we discuss the rubric they will use for mid- and end-of-term self evaluation (full points to send me their evaluation). Pleased to see 1/2

The inevitable happened today. I met with parents of my first-year advisees, and one is a former student of mine. Time flies! 😂

Happy World Elephant Day with thanks to The Elephant Sanctuary in TN for the great work they do! www.elephants.com

Welcome whimsical paintings by Barry Bennie! The chalk board says, “I will not tickle my elephant in class” and it tickles me to no end! The Cloud Gazing one makes my heart smile.

So the author of The White Bone (novel about elephants) was correct!

"I’m not sure when the world will consider me old — maybe it already does — but I do know that I’m no longer afraid of it. I welcome it. And I understand that the best parts of many books are their final chapters." www.nytimes.com/2024/06/05/o...

Both afternoon meetings canceled by organizers (no crises as cause). Yay for pleasant surprises and unscheduled time!

Great finale to a productive department retreat! Thanks for the outstanding leadership Jess Good!

I’m #AllinforDavidson because my students and colleagues expand my thinking, inspire me, and make me laugh.

When asked who is an expert in their field, men #psychology researchers name significantly fewer women than their women colleagues do. This has implications for the gender gap. More in my new story for Science. With @veronicayan.bsky.social  www.science.org/content/arti...

Maybe time to join APA. They’re doing some good work.

Don't forget to nominate candidates for the 2024 Early Career, Mid-Career, and Distinguished Leadership Awards. Learn more and submit by March 31: bit.ly/48nBG1Z

Congratulations to Jennifer Trueblood of @IUPsychBrain @IUCollege @IndianaUniv @IUBloomington, winner of a 2024 @theNASciences Troland Research Award for her pioneering work on mathematical models of cognitive processing. #NASaward #academia

Let’s be clear: multiple things can be true—one can believe President Gay’s remarks at the hearing were imperfect, that claims of plagiarism are worthy of investigation, and acknowledge that the campaign against her has all the markings of misogynoir and straight up racism. I wish her all the best.

We’re excited to announce that the Psychonomic Society is now on Bluesky! Posts will begin in January. Please help spread the word by following us and reposting.
