A drug addict usurped congressional power, and unilaterally gutted US soft power. Members of the administration knew about, and were disturbed by, his drug use (WSJ). Isn’t this a cover-up?

Trump is testing a legal theory that would give him sweeping control over the federal government. Experts warn it could eliminate key checks from Congress, the courts and independent agencies. www.democracydocket.com/analysis/wha...

Asked and answered

But the real story here is the reminder that in times like these, it will not be the politicians or the priests that save us, it will be the poets and the painters. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/bruce-spri...

Bush jacked up the deficit and then Clinton got it under control and then Bush II jacked up the deficit and then Obama got it under control and then Trump I jacked up the deficit and then Biden got it under control and now Trump II is about to jack up the deficit ... ... and throughout all this ...

I’ll say this and then I’m gonna step back b/c 2026 IS THE ONLY NATIONAL ELECTION THAT’S IMPORTANT NOW. No Dem presidential candidate wins w/o high Black turnout & vote. So stop making it like Black voters are expendable or that you can serve up any candidate chosen by Pelosi, Clooney or MSM & win.

Trump used a pic of war deaths in Democratic Republic of Congo to push lie of South African white "genocide." But it gets worse. He's slashed refugee resettlement from DRC while using corpses from that war as "evidence" of fake atrocities against whites! New piece: newrepublic.com/article/1956...

"The Trump administration has suspended foreign aid to Congo and the resettlement of [Congo] refugees ... thus abandoning countless victims of the very same real-life humanitarian catastrophe that he’s cherry-picking imagery from to portray an atrocity against whites that isn’t actually happening.”

Start every day with this reality: EVERY HOUSE SEAT and 33 Senate seats are up for election in 2026. THAT must be the focus. Let’s get disciplined. #LeaveNoPowerOnTheTable ballotpedia.org/United_State...

Have you guys noticed that Trump still hasn’t even mentioned the storms in Kentucky that killed at least 30 people? Republicans are pretty quiet about the lack of response too. Outrage under Biden, silence now that he’s president. That’s how you know he never really cared.

Donald Trump’s traitorous presidency, undeserved occupation of the Oval Office, and very repugnant presence in the highest seat of power in America are a massive middle finger to those we honor on #MemorialDay who died so that we could endure. johnpavlovitz.substack.com/p/donald-tru...

This is helpful. And the way the author explains the power of knowing what to look for & naming the strategies in order to control your responses to them is exactly what I say about Trump's rhetoric. It's hard/impossible to engage your analytic mind when your amygdala's hijacked, so learn & prepare.

“It’s true that narcissism is associated with more impulsive, error-prone decision-making. But … [w]hether consciously or not, narcissists hold power by keeping others in a state of psychological whiplash.“ www.huffpost.com/entry/psycho...

Parnas exposing Donald’s lawsuit fantasy reveals a brazen assault on free speech; selling out journalism to grease a billion dollar media merger is grotesque proof that authoritarian wannabes will bribe their way to impunity. www.rawstory.com/tru...

West Point grads got some rambling advice today on selecting a trophy wife after their second divorce from a draft dodger in a red campaign hat before he hauled ass to play golf.

Critical move

Diseases are spreading. The CDC isn’t warning the public like it was months ago www.npr.org/2025/05/21/n...

Correct, Harvard today the rest of the universities tomorrow

This is what made it an attempted coup and not just a riot. A belatedly successful coup attempt, I suppose it is now.

It’s hard to put into words just how comprehensively this bill is going to hurt public colleges and universities in Texas—especially UT.

Look at all this affirmative action!

"Is that it?" -- Trump did that thing again today where he signs a bunch of executive orders but doesn't seem to know what he's signing and needs to have it explained to him

But investigating auto-pen.

The White House just dropped an executive order significantly shaking up operations at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the government’s nuclear safety regulator widely regarded as the “gold standard” for global nuclear power safety operations. I used to cover NRC closely. Here are some notes🧵

In my worst nightmares the teenagers at DOGE take over the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and, yup, here we are.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court STRIKES DOWN Trump executive order targeting law firm Jenner & Block. Another victory for law firms standing up to Trump.

Democrats in Congress: Investigate and expose why ICE is allowed to operate in masks and conceal their identities. There is no acceptable scenario where this should be permitted. @HouseDemocrats @SenateDems

No other developed nation in the world would tolerate the monstrosity that is the GOP's Murder-Suicide Pact with America. It's time to face the fact that virtually every other leading democracy on the planet serves their people better than we do here. My latest. www.thedailybeast.com/trumps-big-b...

"The tragically bad news, however, is that it is not just a suicide pact. It is a murder-suicide pact. It may end Republican careers, but it will also end tens of thousands of American lives. Many more will suffer."

in addition to being brazenly unprincipled, this is evidence that the conservatives KNOW trump is a mad king, but still want to imbue him with royal authority — against the well-documented history and tradition of the united states — out of their blinkered devotion to a narrow ideological project

Casar: What we discovered last night, which is really breaking news, is that they’re not just robbing Medicaid—it turns out they’re also planning to rob Medicare of nearly half a billion dollars if they pass this bill.

Throwback Thursday… At President Biden’s final State of the Union address, he backed the entire Republican Party into a corner, forcing them to deny that they were planning to slash Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid—just to hand billionaires a trillion-dollar tax cut. He knew!

The GOP’s “Big Beautiful Bill” is Robin Hood in reverse: it takes from the poor to give to the rich.SNAP (used to be Food Stamps…which Tabby and I used back in 1972) is gone. Medicare is going.

This bespoke exception for the Fed is one of the most brazenly made-up things I've ever seen the Supreme Court do (which is saying something). There is no principled basis to distinguish the Fed from other independent agencies. The conservative justices just don't want Trump to crash the market!

I wrote years ago that when Republican lawmakers sucked up to Trump, they told themselves if he ever got really bad, they’d stop him. I said at the time that they were fooling themselves. I was right, of course. Now they’re all in. They’re henchmen in the plot to destroy our democracy.

Succinctly states where we are and what's happening. These three things, in addition to doing much else, are the sheet anchors of American wealth and power.

•••••BREAKING••••• A federal judge has blocked Trump’s executive order dismantling the Department of Education, ordering the agency to reinstate more than 1,300 fired employees. U.S. District Judge Myong Joun ruled that the Trump regime’s mass firings were unlawful — a clear effort to…

Murray to FDA Commissioner Makary: "I believe this administration is laying the groundwork to rip away access to medication abortion across the country. This has not gotten enough attention and I know you'd prefer to keep it that way."

A HAPPY UPDATE! Mahmoud Khalil was allowed a "contact" visit—without plexiglass divider—with his wife and newborn son this morning before his immigration hearing, ACLU tells me, so I think we can safely assume that he was finally able to hold his child for the first time.
