hiya! if you are able, have you gotten a breath of fresh air today? rolled your neck side to side? reached both arms to the sky or touched your toes? drank some water? 🌞

Good morning! #TenMinMerlin today brought us a potential Baltimore Oriole (I gotta put a fruit feeder out!) and a potential Savannah Sparrow. Heard the Nuthatch loud and clear but have yet to see it scrabbling down a tree like I had hoped. Maybe as more bugs emerge.

Gorgeous photo from The Color Nature Library: CATS by Peggy Wratten, 1977. I can't find the photographer's name, unfortunately. None is noted anywhere in the book.

As a kid I led some bird walks in Ohio for European visitors. I'd expected them to want to chase some of our rare spring migrants, but their main targets were Northern Cardinals, Blue Jays, and American Goldfinches for this reason. They're so colorful and so fun, I'm so grateful they're common!

Two #TenMinMerlin sessions today: 6:15am out my bedroom window, then I dozed off and the second is from 9:15am. The second one makes me grateful for all the brilliant color in our neighborhood wildlife despite the list being only some of the most common birds! Red, rust, yellow, and bright blue.

I think I can hear spring peepers through my open window 🥰 a sure sign that good weather is coming

Ocean nerds do you need a thread to make you happy? This will make you happy!

ppl who were raised catholic, would you generally do the sign of the cross with your index or middle finger? I always used to touch with the middle finger of an open/relaxed hand. i watch a show where someone exclusively does a pointing handshape☝️. cant tell if it's a cultural diff or weird acting 🙃

Attempted to be out at sunrise for my #TenMinMerlin today, this was about ten minutes or so afterwards. Rained all night. Confirmed Golden-crowned Kinglet via playback!! but could not confirm Fish Crow or Marsh Wren visually or via playback. Cool if true. Marsh Wren would be a little out of its way.

Took this video after my #TenMinMerlin of a cowbird announcing himself. Afterwards, he had a quick splash in the pond. He seemed to be talking to a fella across the street from my house.

A late morning #TenMinMerlin revealed a White-breasted Nuthatch. Still no clue whether Waxwing is a mis-ID. Snagged a photo of a finch and a cowbird. Heard a Northern Flicker, started a quick 2nd recording. A Great Blue Heron flew overhead! 🩵 Idk why a Cardinal was here instead of at the conclave 👀

I swear to bulb, if they choose belizabeth brassica as pontifex...

Kenyan #journalist Alvin Kaunda was reporting live from Nairobi when a curious baby #elephant, Kindani, decided to join the broadcast. The playful elephant stuck her trunk in Alvin's mouth, making for a hilarious moment! A joyful reminder of wildlife's charm and the work of the Sheldrick Trust!

Not so many different birds for today's #TenMinMerlin, maybe they were off on an Easter egg hunt! Mourning Dove heard shortly after recording, and a Tree Swallow makes an appearance for the first time today. Can you spy who took a dip in my little pond?

“I want to preserve his soul”

I’ve always had a strong preference for single player experiences, but being a teenager during the peak for games like DDR, Guitar hero/rock band, Mario Party, and WarioWare was truly something special. Playing those with a small group of friends was unmatched.

daffodils multiplying by the second in my yard! We moved in last August so all the spring plant life is new to us. I also found two peony plants already established! how lucky

Blue Jays really out here just making any noise they want huh

first milk goes bad then it turns evil

is the phrase "presumed dead" applicable to a human who, if alive, would be 437 years old today

How to cross thin ice, #polar #bear edition: spread out wide to distribute weight and reduce pressure. This clever move helps avoid breaking the fragile surface. A survival tactic perfected in the Arctic #physics

A Northern Flicker joins my avian neighbors in my #TenMinMerlin today! Well, actually it was 20min because they got real chatty around 9min 👀. In college we used to wait 5-10min before observing/recording birds to allow them to adjust to our presence. Do you wait or start recording right away? 🐦

Oh no NOOOOOO no no no oh my God The kitten's fosterer just texted like "Hey do you want some BABY baby pictures of Franca? From when they first found the litter?" I WILL CRY FOREVER LOOK HOW BEENSY AND FLUFFY SHE WAS

All good but this is a particularly good one

200 million! (Plus some extras) #birds #spring #migration #LightsOutForBirds

Gorgeous morning chorus today! My #TenMinMerlin flew by (🫣) with 5-6 birds in the first min or so. "Broad-winged Hawk" was a truck reversing. White-throated Sparrow was singing his heart out all 10min. Might've been in conversation, bc I thought I heard him modulate the key... 🎶 Canada Geese also!

I've been taking early walks in the park to watch and listen to birds for my sanity, and the Merlin Bird ID app has been indispensable for identifying bird songs. Merlin was funded by a grant from the NSF, the science funding agency that Trump is trying to destroy. www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/...

@ Ayo Edibiri you look so good in this, I'm so excited for this theme

face down. like a hog at a trough. squealing, grunting, howling my way through the Friendly’s Dutch Fudge Roll

Reasons you might like #Birding if you already like #Pokemon: • some birds say their own name (e.g., chickadee) • your Life List is like a Pokédex of birds • Birds can hide in tall grass • Visiting a new region unlocks new birds • All birds are higher evolutions (the Starter birds were dinosaurs)
