Not the same Sean Parnell who was Palin’s lt. gov and then governor when she quit. This is a completely different asshole.

Also at the Museum, the biggest oil lamp I’ve ever seen. This one is the size of an LP. The card describing it reads: Kachemak lamp, Cook Inlet c.a.AD 500 - 1100. Stone. Ancient carved stone oil lamps decorated w/human figures such as this one, or animal forms have been found at Kodiak Island.

I’ll save you the trouble. “When asked to comment about the executive order, Sullivan rolled out his neck frill and a nictating membrane descended twice over his eyes. “I haven’t read it,” he hissed.

All they’d have to do is send every Alaskan a check and a healthy percentage of the state would vote for anything.

Ugh ! He’s just matching the tone of the incoming administration, of course. But, “THE” Cook Inlet ? I get that he needs to play tough to impress his bully cohort but that phrasing makes me suspect someone else is speaking for him.

@nothingsmonstrd.bsky.social Painted 15 years after Reginault’s Salome. I would swear she’s the same model. Maria Latini died in 1900 so it’s possible. Probably just looks that way to me because the style is so similar.

Fair point but I spent years as a reporter and the highest profile murder cases in my small town were all solved not by police work but because someone who knew about it told. This is, of course, not counting the many murders that where, as usual, committed by the victim’s boyfriend or husband.

A friend who was an AK state trooper told me once, “If you want to get away with murder, the #1 rule is - tell no one. Because if you tell even one person, I’ve got you.”

In Seldovia, the city’s raw sewage pipe empties right into the ocean in sight of a popular public beach. Ahhh, mixing zones.

Lol, I’ll be dragged down by the ghosts of the thousands of tiny squid that I have impaled onto my circle hooks. My friends will all say, “She would have wanted it that way.”

If ever there were a moment to make the, “This is name of my band” joke work for me . . . Voluptuous Peril. But what kind of band? For maximum insufferability I should retread my cabaret act, only in French this time. La Sirène et le Péril Voluptueux

I’m lucky enough to be able to fly south from mid December to mid January this season. I try to get away every year. I head to my favorite city and soak in the culture (and the sun) while the light comes back.

Yay Garrett Morgan! He lived in my hometown, Paris, Ky. There’s a historical marker for him by his homesite.

The repeal of RCV in Alaska has failed by over 600 votes. I voted against the repeal which makes this the one race in 2024 where I voted with the winners. Cold comfort but at least that’s one victory to celebrate.
