Speechless. www.sfgate.com/california-p...

I'm getting a lot of freaked out late-night texts from my friends who are not experienced organizers, looking for advice on how to deal with the constant onslaught of bad news and how to make themselves useful. This is the advice I give.

So we’re just going to shut down many/all post offices, Social Security Administration local offices, FBI and DHS field offices, State Department field and passport offices, Department of Agriculture regional offices, federal courthouses, EPA regional offices, VA field offices and hospitals, etc.?

We just published a 3,000 word feature on Elon Musk's incursion into the federal government. Gift link here: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/u...

I think Americans, blessed with relatively stable government for a long time, assume there is someone, some adult, who will step in and make things right before the President does anything REALLY bad. There’s not.

How is there not a single Democrat Senator or Representative who has stepped up over an entire weekend where Elon Musk is clearly unwinding American democracy inside US govt buildings???

Robert F. Kenney got into Harvard by submitting an application that was a single page long and consisted entirely of his name. Here's why it's time to end DEI.

Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce. Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

In Tokein's world, the Elves see Middle Earth as just declining and diminishing endlessly and they eventually leave and I feel like I totally get it.

3% of normal rainfall by this point in the season in LA. It will rain at some point right? Right?

With everything so seemingly terrible these days & no sign of anything remotely hopeful in the near future, I thought you might need this photo of a baby giraffe.

The CEO of Watch Duty used his skills as a software engineer to build the app to amplify fire safety information as a public service: “Techies are obsessed with going to Mars and inventing an AGI robot to do art. But I’m obsessed with time and life.” sfstandard.com/2025/01/09/w...

I've already pointed out that Brendan Carr has made it clear that he will be the most censorial FCC chair in history. And he will do it while wrapping himself in the false flag of free speech. And the media will repeat that claim as if it's accurate.

Phone pic of tonight’s apocalyptic sunset from evacuation warned Santa Monica with smoke from the Palisades Fire drifting across the ocean

Surreal scene in Santa Monica

the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

Overheard today in LA: "No I'm not a massage therapist I'm a tarot card reader"

From THE VIEW FROM FLYOVER COUNTRY:

Lol holding a president accountable for a coup, what a ridiculous third-world thing to do

My God…

New! Ten articles explaining the 2024 election, in one place, for free. sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/ten-articl...

Either built up immunity from vaccinations or 1 past infection protected me this week, or n95 mask did. Or maybe both. Los Angeles area covid surge is definitely real. More than half the people in my small office room got it and somehow I didn't.

I made a "Trump-to-NYT" meme template imgflip.com/memegenerato... (h/t @kenwhite.bsky.social for the idea)

The ultimate Started/Going

Every day at the office now is Covid roulette. 1/3 of my room now sick.

I oppose this worldview—this theory of America—with every fiber of my being.

Two months ago Greg Abbott pardoned a murderer who texted a friend "I might go to Dallas to shoot looters" then drove into a BLM protest in Austin and killed a protester. The universal response from conservatives to the pardon was "Yeah! Woo-hoo!" Now they say liberals should turn down the rhetoric

First 24 hours are ideal conditions for bad media: * Interest in the facts is off the charts, but there is only a handful of them * Bad actors fill the unmet demand * Civiltarians try to silence political discussion * Both sides bromides roar to life * Memory itself is now said to be in bad taste

This is NYT’s portrait of a Trump rally, where the explicit agenda was putting millions of people in concentration camps before deporting them.

Just a reminder: it’s good to oppose assassinations. But you are under absolutely no obligation to treat Trumpists and Trump-apologists as people who are honest, or acting in good faith, when they purport to condemn political violence or violent rhetoric. They’re not sincere.

can we please go one week without a decade happening

Well this is grim
