Cool concept but dang! The price for the hat is a little steep

I agree. I love ham radio but I can sometimes go weeks without doing anything. Then I'll come back to it for a while. Maybe it's some sort of post-purchase rationalization behavior (with how expensive ham equipment can be) that makes people feel they need to do it constantly. Same with golfing.

Check out this video for a little intro. The playlist is a great study resource.
You can also check out my pinned post for some DIY resources that save a ton of money. And yes! Getting to know your local club is a great start.

The cool thing about ham radio is you can utilize digital communication at short and long distances without the use of the internet. This is incredibly useful when trying to communicate more than just the spoken word, such as data and images.

It's probably cheaper and less of a hassle to just buy a new baofeng 😬 then you'll have a backup!

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. That's never easy ❤️ take a look at repeater book and see if there are any repeaters near you. Tune your radio to the repeater frequency and listen in to what your local hams are up to!

Yes! I've been at it for a few years. I've really enjoyed both the technical and social aspects of the hobby. Sometimes I drive long distances and hit repeaters along the way just to chat with new folks.

This is awesome! I know more about radio than I do computers, but I've gotten into some raspberry pi projects that have sparked an interest.
