Guess I picked a great day to stay offline, writing plant names on labels at the cemetery, and doing article revisions. I'm just gonna close the laptop again and read a book.

Today's agenda: finish and submit article revisions, volunteer at the natural burial cemetery, take kid to drum lessons, go see @soljbrager.bsky.social talk about Heavyweight!

Every day I have to hear about some asshole

Issue launch ✈️ incoming! Durham/Chapel Hill folks please join me, Mab Segrest, and Mandy Carter for a conversation on the Queer South past and future, April 10! www.southerncultures.org/events/queer...

Again, the revenue they are sharing w/ Nazis is money YOU spend on your fave substackers. If you're accepting paid subscriptions on substack— and putting content behind a pay wall—you are inherently asking your readers to share that money w/ Nazis. "You can't read this unless you give Nazis money."

I also want to emphasize that these little actions are inconvenient for me. I have the capacity to summon a few precious minutes of executive function, and tolerate a tiny bit of discomfort to adjust my habits. Then I don't have to think about it as actively. (More time to perserverate!)

I appreciate the current encouragement for doing something every day towards change. Today I canceled all my Substack subscriptions and deleted my account. Earlier this week I canceled my Target card and joined Costco. I share this bc I think it matters but it's also tedious and boring!

support a queer historian and trans person making art work! it's me, i'm the artist, i'm the historian. i give my zines out for free to my local community, buying a zine subscription helps me continue to do this work. last day to get in before i mail out february subscription! ✌️

JOB KLAXON: Come work with me in Atlanta! We’re extending the search for a rare book librarian. This role is primarily a cataloging position. If you want to know more: info session on 2/27, or feel free to reach out to me directly

We heard over and over how “from the river to the sea” was irrefutably a call to genocide while a literal nazi salute was just a silly misunderstanding some quirky guys have been doing

Please read and share. But especially share with folks that might not realize how critical Section 504 is to so many people. I tried to write a simple clear explanation at the break. I hope it reaches some people who aren't already on our side. Gift link: www.startribune.com/why-are-repu...

Taqwa has survived the most horrific things and is hoping to have a safe place for her new baby ❤️ please help her

In a way the Post Office *is* the United States. It is what guarantees that anyone can be in touch with anyone.

Is now a good time to say that Things I didn't Learn at Library school is back in print featuring new AI grievances, rants about hollow performance of decolonising library collections, plus all my usual hot takes on the exploitation of labour in libraries. coolschmool.bigcartel.com/product/thin...

Submissions are now open for our 9th year of the Honey & Wax Book Collecting Prize. Please share widely so we can award these amazing young women some money! lithub.com/submissions-...

A bunch of catalogers on the PCC list not understanding the inherent conservatism of LC administration. Sure, they technically *could* interpret a rule in a way which would go against an executive order, but they're definitely not going to. Don't look to LC for courage, library friends. #critcat 📚

It's one month till launch day! The Fire Apprentice is available to preorder—links at my website: janebuehler.com/books/#FireA... #cozyfantasy #romantasy

BEING PAID,—what will compare with it?

Local friends-- 2 opportunities to hear from artist/writer Sol Brager!

LC published a tentative list to change #LCSH Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America & Mt Denali to Mt McKinley. Comments on the proposed changes can be sent to [email protected] by Tues. February 18, 2025 (which is TODAY). If you oppose the change, please email! #critcat (classweb.org/tentative-su...

You know, just sending emails to the Library of Congress and posting to the work teams to rally the other library workers to do the same. I guess it's good to rage in our lane?

Also encourage people to email LC to oppose this proposed revision, which was announced a few hours ago (with comments deadline of today 😡). Your email can be short (1-3 sentences) and can focus on impact to your patrons. #critcat #LCSH #cataloging 📚

So one of the things that I think is lost on AI proponents is what I call the card catalog effect, a thing I shouldn’t call it because a lot of people probably have no experience with a card catalog.

Paging science zine-makers!

Lord, think of having half an acre of stomach-ache!

My 9am reference consultation just cancelled -- a valentine miracle! Reclaiming an extra 30 minutes for staring into the void.
