My family got these payments when my dad died at 34 years old after serving in the Navy for a decade from what he had paid in. I was five. Jeanine is an incurious ignoramus. Thanks @jessicatarlov.bsky.social for correcting her, which is God’s work.

The SEC is the only agency that could get to the bottom of who did these trades — and they would have to want to know.

Genius.

The cowards at Paul Weiss own this most of all, but they are joined in disgrace by Milbank, Willkie Farr, and Skadden. Trump suggested there are other firms that have agreed to debase themselves, but did not reveal the names.

You can tell who the Good Guys are because they're the ones smashing a car window to drag a mother away from her child while wearing ski masks.

Does anyone know what he's talking about? Where are the showers not working? Where are the dishwashers not doing the job? Where is this coming from? I feel like an investigation will show that Trump shafted a plumbing contractor and they got revenge by messing with the pipes at Mar-a-Lago.

Congrats to Big Balls, Skeeter and the rest of the Musk Minions for making this happen.

"The current leadership of the Department of Justice are all people who worked as Trump’s personal attorneys, and it does not appear that they have made the shift in mindset to their new role, which is serving the American people, not serving the president personally. And that is very concerning."

“There are already signs that Trump’s economic policies are stamping out the Biden factory boom: During the first quarter of 2025, clean-energy companies on net canceled more construction projects than they had canceled in all of 2023 and 2024” @citizencohn.bsky.social

ELECTION RESULT: A team of city council members in Rolla, Missouri, have been pushing anti-LGTB policies, including a ban on drag shows and book censorship. Voters just ousted all three of these city councilors who were running for reelection, backing candidates backed by a local LGBT group.

Yes, it’s a bit hard to see now, but allowing the president to become a king who can kidnap citizens while also demolishing the global financial system is a small price to pay for getting to keeping 23 trans women from playing college sports.

I like how he’s openly admitting to shaking down private companies and nothing will be done about it. Ever. Pretty, pretty cool.

The Court congratulates itself for having guaranteed due process but the actual, foreseeable, almost-certain result of its opinion will be to ensure that most disappeared people don’t receive any process at all.

There’s a lesson here for every Big Law firm, university and media company if they care to learn it.

Somebody should tell him about the chicken tax (the way we've protected the domestic auto industry from imported trucks for decades)

"One follow up question, Mr. President -- what the everloving fuck are you rambling about?"

My working theory is that someone once told him that it was called "The Gilded Age" and went "You mean... like gold?"

Revised National Parks Webpage Describes Harriet Tubman As Human Trafficker

Trump is not done attacking our elections. He and his supporters plot every day to undermine the right to vote. They are constantly looking for opportunities to exploit weaknesses in the election system. This is their top priority. The question for us is whether it is ours as well.

What's most significant about today's day of action is the sheer number of locations where protests took place -- more than 1000 towns and cities, all over the country. That's only happened one or two times before *in all of American history.*

If you're protesting this weekend, know your rights when interacting with law enforcement, including immigration agents.

Upon learning that your own mistake sent an innocent father to a brutal prison where he’s likely to be tortured, anyone with a shred of decency would be overcome with shame and fight like hell to get him back. They think it’s funny. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Five years on, we’re still waiting for the very first “Black Biden voters in Atlanta diners” article from the Paper of Record. In the meantime, please do enjoy this article featuring three “longtime Democrats” who just happened to vote for Trump in 2024

Don’t forget slapping enormous tariffs on the Canadian lumber we primarily use to build houses.

Even among the darkest recesses of the human condition, there is no more paralyzing, bladder-loosening fear than conservative men’s fear of subways.

The Lithuanian president showed up to honor dead American soldiers as their remains departed his country. The American president did not show up to receive their remains as they arrived in the US. He had a golf tournament to get to.

The US had a trade-weighted average tariff rate of 2.2% in 2023, compared with 2.7% for the EU, 1.9% in Japan, 3.4% for Canada, 3% for China and 1.7% for Switzerland -- hardly a huge disparity. @anaswanson.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/04/02/u...

Governors should mobilize the National Guard to seize federal assets until Congressional spending authority under Article I is restored, at a minimum. Nobody wants this enough to get into a shooting war to defend Musk and Trump.

And a federal judge has granted an emergency restraining order against the cuts. Though many departments have already fired staff and canceled vaccine clinics, this is what health departments were hoping for. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/03/u...

Wow who could’ve guessed that this would happen It’s almost as if USAID was a pillar of American soft power and influence in the world It’s almost as if it was entirely predictable that America’s adversaries would work to fill the void left by USAID’s destruction

This is the essence of the story, not how these tariffs epitomize Trump’s “appetite for risk,” which is currently the lead story in The NY Times. I haven’t seen anything approaching this level of straightforward honesty in the Times or WAPO, thus far.

I know crashing the economy on purpose seems harsh, but it’ll all be worth it when the seventh Little Mermaid is white

Vance is lying (again). Social Security has repeatedly debunked this. The actual claim is that 40 percent of direct deposit fraud occurred via calls to the agency. That is wholly different, and massively less, than 40 percent of calls being fraudulent. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/01/u...

🚨 51-48, Senate PASSES a measure to terminate Trump’s tariffs on Canada. Four Republicans join Democrats to deliver a rare rebuke to the president: Susan Collins Lisa Murkowski Rand Paul Mitch McConnell

George HW Bush marveled at a new kind of grocery scanner in 1992 and was pilloried for being out of touch. Trump — who’s repeatedly said you need to show photo ID buying food — now insists “groceries” is some obscure term he recovered from the distant past and we’ll just move right along.

There's no question that today's tariff announcement will give the United States the highest tariff rates of any industrialized country. And it's not even close.

Reminder that Congress can stop this shitshow anytime they want.

james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country "...for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."

Trump is reportedly telling aides that Elon Musk will be “stepping back” from his White House role soon, just hours after Musk’s humiliating loss in Wisconsin.

Wild story: the acting Social Security chief was warned that terminating data collection contracts with Maine would increase fraud. But he responded that it didn't matter because it was more important to punish Maine's governor for disagreeing with Trump. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...

Imagine complaining that the opposing candidate was "bought and paid for" when your guy *literally* had the richest man in the world handing out checks for a million dollars for your guy.

Republican appointees have served as Chief Justices of the Supreme Court my entire life. I have never lived in a world in which a Democratic appointee led the Court. This is one hell of a long con.
