What have the National Institutes of Health ever done for us?

Though every Cell paper is special, I occasionally get a paper that ✨delights✨ me from start to finish. These astute scientists found a unique opportunity to study an audacious snake venom enthusiast and uncovered antibodies that could serve as a broad antidote to snakebites. 🐍

Vaccination in left arm, right arm, or both?? @labphan.bsky.social congrats and looking to you for the answer 😄 Macrophages direct location-dependent recall of B cell memory to vaccination: Cell www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

Happy #DayofImmunology! Congrats @ramadhenni.bsky.social & Alexandra Carey Hoppé it's out (finally!) @cp-cell.bsky.social! Incredibly grateful to co-leads @mlmunier.bsky.social, Vanessa Venturi & Tony Kelleher & all brilliant folks @garvaninstitute.bsky.social & Kirby Inst. for fantastic collab! 🧵

This is really excellent news, and, as the article points out, evidence has been accruing that even a single dose of HPV vaccine may be enough for durable and highly effective prevention of cervical cancer. www.statnews.com/2025/04/28/h...

Really excited to share this new red fluorescent protein! Anecdotally, years ago I saw Dorus Gadella present mScarlet at MAF. I KNEW it was a game changer and I invited that paper. Now several generations later it keeps on giving. mScarlet3-H is 🔥🔥 link below

Our latest work now online in Cell: Rewriting regulatory DNA to dissect and reprogram gene expression Our new method (Variant-EFFECTS) uses high-throughput prime editing + flow sorting + sequencing to precisely measure effects of noncoding variants on gene expression Thread 👇

Thanks to @natmedicine.bsky.social for inviting this 'Turning Point' as part of their 30-yr anniversary 🎉 Back in 2013, we published a Nat Med study that not only impacted the #tumor #microenvironment field, but also the trajectory of our lab 🧪 Led by a great team- Pyonteck, Akkari & Schuhmacher 🙌

Excited to share that our cell surface proteome review is now online on Chemical Reviews! 🥰 We highlight recent advances of techniques mapping cell surface protein expression, protein-protein interactions, extracellular PTMs and MHC complexes. @jimwellsucsf.bsky.social pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...

We are thrilled to share our new manuscript @science.org , in which we uncovers a critical role for macrophage peroxisomes in lung repair after viral infection. Could targeting peroxisomes be the key to mitigating long COVID?! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

This week in #Science #Immunology: researchers @ @helsinki.fi characterize #immune landscape of deep cervical #LymphNodes in newly diagnosed untreated patients w #MultipleSclerosis! Authors uncover several lines of evidence strengthening possible link btw #MS & Epstein–Barr virus ( #EBV ) infection!

That time when Stalin put Lysenko in charge of agricultural research and genetics at the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Lysenko rejected as "bourgeois" evolution and classical genetics & forced farmers to plant crops according to ideology leading to mass starvation... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysenko...

A bit of basic discussion about interpapers reproducibility for students, who are still learning on many specifics, like how to deal with bullies and pre-judgements.

Critical systems like the immune system have built-in redundancies to act as a fail-safe. Redundancies are essential. Just ask any patient with life-threatening immunodeficiency. Eliminating critical redundancies to improve efficiency will inevitably lead to devastating and fatal consequences.

🧵 🎉 Congratulations #Niger for eliminating Onchocerciasis, commonly known as river blindness, the first country in the African Region to do so bit.ly/40Ur7lV 1/4

Incredible paper from @bogunoviclab.bsky.social et al! Biased expression of wildtype allele as basis for incomplete penetrance (not all carriers develop disease) & variable expressivity (some carriers mild, some severe) of some heterozygous monogenic immune diseases. Lots implications for Dx & Rx!
