the people in my professional tech circles who spent december and january crowing about buying trump sneakers to trigger libs and sucking up to musk are scrubbing their linkedins. remember who they are.

feeling really lucky that my pcp randomly decided to give me an mmr booster 5-ish years ago, just because there were a few cases in a neighboring county and I was like hell yea gimme four shots in one arm

Social media let everyone eavesdrop on everyone else and we couldn't handle the difference between "this person is talking to me and therefore I expect them to code switch into our shared register" and "this person is talking to someone else in an entirely different register"

this entire administration is passing around a single braincell but that braincell is actually a moldy worm

Because they're all deathly afraid of being uncool and don't have enough confidence in their own taste to openly like things. Reading Foundation/Dune/etc: safe, appropriate, intellectual, rational Reading Teixcalaan/Radch/etc: cringe, overemotional, insufficiently nihilistic

@marthawells.com Do you plan to re-release the Raksura patreon snippets eventually? I was a subscriber and just reread the series, was hoping to find the shorts in my patreon email updates but no luck. I'd love to buy them as a zine or something!

Extremely minor and petty and local but I'm going to be so pissed when the Bay Area tech yimbys run on evicting women for not dating their failson nephews, and I am forced to spite-vote for Dean Preston V2

The thing about the average tech guy just out of college isn't that they're stupid, it's that they're small fish who have never been out of a tiny pond

that's not a dogwhistle, that's an air raid siren

we should add a feed yourself requirement to the SAT * chop onions and garlic * fry an egg * cook a carb (pasta, rice, noodle, potato...) * cook a vegetable (stovetop, oven, doesn't matter) * heat canned soup * microwave freezer mac and cheese * pack the leftovers

Maybe we would have fewer ridiculous drone/ufo/Iranian Mothership panics if people just looked up more all the time. Go outside! Touch grass! Like down on a rock! Inoculate yourselves to the concept of stars, they're very pretty!

Without insurance, my main drug would cost $6.5k a month. The baseline cost of having a mostly functional body is more than mortgage on a million dollar house!

every time a conservative opens their mouth to say they really care about women's sports they should have to donate $10K to a local girls sports program

A major reason I don't use LLMs to write emails and other bureaucratic little things is actually very simple: I like writing words. I like rolling them around, I like playing with the sound of them, I like stacking them one way and then another to see which suits my mood and intent

If anyone were actually worried about bathrooms, they would simply build some single-stalls and call it a day. Trans and don't want that stress? Scared of hearing a trans person flush a toilet? Have a kid? Need to change a tampon? Just want to poop in peace? Single stall bathrooms!!

I want to be productive but I'm too tired to be productive without coffee but if I drink coffee I won't sleep I suppose it's more useful to be functional on Monday morning than Sunday evening...

huh, until the live commentary, I thought in passing that a boxer named paul tyson was going to fight...someone

for all the various productivity tools people keep making, nothing beats a stack of post-its that you haphazardly stick to the bottom edge of your monitor whenever a thought pops into your brain

I had really hoped we were less stupid than this.

I want Neve's fancy little hat and sparkly magic bop it #veilguard

Do texts begging for political donations actually work? I've only ever heard people complaining about them and how hard it is to unsubscribe, or even saying that the reason they're reluctant to donate through ActBlue is that they know it'll trigger a wave of email and text spam

American problems: I can't decide whether it's better to be too busy to be stressed for the next few weeks, or if it's better to have less work so that I can be stressed in peace
