KPIs are irrelevant for unbiasing hiring decisions simply because they do not exist until *after* the person got hired. Also having good past KPIs to show for in an interview is a function of having being assigned high impact projects and people supporting you internally, both also highly biased.

Sports team have a fairly objetive measure of competence. The assessment of competence for corporate jobs is much more subjective and susceptible to biases (in specific directions). DEI tries to compensate for those biases.

I see type of media and family financial situation too as relevant factors. Is it good or bad situation associated with pessimism? If bad, then I can see that + confirmation bias explaining the inclination for pessimistic media.
