Theory: Once we started understanding human motivation, we started to see a degradation in the quality of everything. Because we started understanding how to optimize dissatisfaction, we could create products and services that left us wanting more.

You know who would crush it? A real estate agent that does, like.....anything.

Before and after. Focus on the transformation and sell to humans. Humans like other friendly humans.

I wrote a thing on Universal Needs and how they play into brand building and market traction.

Here's a checklist to see if your copy is hitting the right notes to connect with your ICP. If you don't have a goal in mind, you can't iterate. Figure out the needs of your audience, express them, and measure the results.

Completely unremarkable bakery in Spain.

Before and after. You don't need to give everything away at the start. When people encounter a new product, you can take the time to give them a story.

My first company was a design company for film and television. Playback, previz and titles.  I am, by no means, a natural at sales. But I started hitting the phone and making cold calls.  Here's what happened when I cold called Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.

Design is all about persuasion. All design is behaviour design. When you know why your audience does what it does, you can deliver more relevant experiences.

Before and after. Sometimes making a brand more fun can make tough things more reassuring.

Side quest. Construction edition. Having a bit of experience with renos this seems useful to me. Would love industry feedback from builders and trades. Is this a useful idea?

There seems to be a time when someone gets rich enough that they start to see their customers, employees, and the world itself as impediments to their "vision". They want to fix everything, so why is everyone getting in their way? Why shouldn't they just get all the money so they can get it done?

The Laws of Branding - Number 21

Parisians dress better than Vancouverites.

Before and after. Design with more than just one medium in mind. Sites are great testing ground, but they're just one medium. A brand system needs to work at trade shows, social media posts, adverts, pitch decks, and more.

British Airways business class has better food than Air France business class.

Confidence in founders is incredibly important. That's why it's a good idea to put some investment into your brand. It's way easier to do a pitch or drive people to a site when you know things are on point. If you're excited to share tour stuff, other people will be excited to see it (Products too!)

Mentors are great, but you can't always get one.  There's a trick you can use anyway. One secret to success (according to everyone) is showing up every day. But the questions is, showing up doing what exactly? That's where a mentor can help. If you don't have one, here's how to do it for yourself.

Junior design is filled with ego. Senior design is totally egoless. Legendary design is filled with ego.

Before and after. Feelings beat features.

People have a series of purchase motivations, from functional goals to motives grounded in values, to their regulatory needs. Understanding these perspectives helps make better products and better communication. All it takes is a bit of empathy and effort.

Before and after. People buy home services because of their homes. Take the focus off the service, and put it on the purpose.

I scheduled this post ahead of time, but I assume the Chiefs are currently down.

Warm up.

Influence comes down to basic human needs. Primal stuff, that goes back to our hunter gatherer roots. Survival instincts that we can't escape no matter how many rockets we catch with space tweezers.

The main title for Severance season 2 is by Oliver Latta. Ben Stiller saw his work on instagram.  Share your work. You never know who is looking.

Sale ends today if you want to learn Blender this looks like a great course from School of Motion.

When you see this, what do you think of?

Warmup.

How we buy things is determined by what emotions we're trying to regulate.

Hey US companies and startups - if you support diversity and inclusion, we'll give you 20% off services. LaunchBox loves what ACTUALLY makes America great.

A lot of people design products based on features and feedback. But with a little effort and empathy you can create products and experience that keep people coming back. And that means that you can design products that impact lives for the better. If you want.
