A little demoralizing… This was the scene that greeted me this morning under our classroom window. Like the multiple bird feeders that’ve disappeared overnight. But a whole blooming lilac?! 😞

Complicated feelings about nationalism aside, I do like the conversations the June flags flying open up at school. Several kids pointed them out, asked why we had more now. Here’s to the end of the year when our class community has matured so much that such conversations arise naturally. ❤️

Sun definitely still looks weird. Like a pink fireball in the sky. Please let the folks up north get rain…

The sky today an unsettling sort of greige. I don’t smell the smoke (like we could a few years ago when wildfires in Manitoba & Northern Ontario spread widely) but the sun was orange for far too long this morning.

That shit about Jonathan Joss was already bad on its own because it seemed like senseless gun violence when it was initially reported. Now that the circumstances are out there, it's 10x worse. That's why it's important to stand up for LGBTQ+ people. Nobody should ever have to deal with that.

💔

Jonathan Joss was MURDERED. Words matter here. He was MURDERED. it was a HATE CRIME because he is a gay Indigenous man. Say those words. Do not dance around it. He wasn't "killed in a shooting." He was murdered in a hate crime.

The boy came home from work a few days ago and said he saw a new bird. By description, I thought thrush: pale breast, brown back. Then he added that it has a “rolled R” trill and long legs. Huh? So, built like a shorebird, but sounds like a chipping sparrow? Tonight he added more details. We got it!

“Our history is woven into the fabric of HBC’s beginnings, and reclaiming these artifacts is essential to honour and preserve the contributions and heritage of our ancestors,” MKO Grand Chief Garrison Settee said in the statement.
