Grieved to discover that a tree I’d planted during a neighborhood planting day 18 years ago was taken out at the roots by last Thursday’s intense storm. I will miss patting its trunk and saying “hi, baby.” 😭

It felt kinda biggish being in the midst of my neighbors, but wow! We Philadelphians really showed up and stood strong together 💙

Whoever made “disconnect” popular as a noun is my mortal enemy. DisconnecTION is the noun form, $&*% jargon-creating noun-er of verbs! 😡 #editorrant

So I can now go to the store and have them pay me $15 to take away a dozen eggs? That’s what a 400% reduction from $5 would be. Once again 47’s math ain’t mathin’ 🤦‍♀️

Want to support national parks? Get the NPS app! www.nps.gov/subjects/dig... We discovered some additional gems through it to visit while in Massachusetts.

We spent the day tromping around lovely fields in Massachusetts where the revolution’s earliest battle happened and I was most excited to see barn swallows zipping around the marsh gobbling insects. They are such delights!

The scholarly submissions I’m seeing from China keep getting better and better. Meanwhile, US professors are so ground down with administrative hoop jumping and student hand holding, they are hardly submitting anything at all. The shift in world soft power is palpable.

And it's live! I'm so excited to share the Debts of Fire Deluxe Edition Kickstarter with you! Hitomi is my absolute disaster child, and I love her so much. In DoF, she's headed back to the desert to fulfill her promise to the phoenix... www.kickstarter.com/projects/boo...

I’m dreaming about adding a mosaic to our front steps, but worry about perpetually being underfoot of my fam and deliveries while installing it. Maybe I can convince my adjoining neighbor to let me do hers first as an experiment. She mostly uses her back door. 🤔

Fellow Pennsylvanians, please vote in the primary today! Primaries have historically had incredibly low voter turnout. Let’s stay civically engaged and not zone out.

Proud Dune nerd just recruited a new member of the Butlerian jihad—professor hubs who is beyond sick of students shortchanging their own education with AI that makes them dull and unthinking.

I’m excited to pick up our first week’s share from the Henry Got Crops CSA this rainy evening. It’s been about 15 years since we last had a membership because it was too much food. Now I know where the community fridges are to share surplus.

Pennsylvania, it’s past time that we call for a 302 on our clearly unwell Senator with vascular dementia.

Bernie Sanders here in Philly! #mayday

In case you think RFK’s autism plans are no big deal, his co-conspirator is even more dangerous and deserves jail time for crimes against children

Headed off to Independence Hall, Philadelphia, on this 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington & Concord, which set off the American Revolution, soon followed in the following January by Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" and, a few months later, The Declaration of Independence.

It feels like a miracle that we could find a used car my daughter loves and could afford, a former rental fleet car.

Today would have been my dad’s 99th birthday. Hugging his patched childhood teddy a little tighter.

“If You Like Piña Coladas” song takes on a whole new meaning after season 3 of White Lotus.

Ok so you know how you love those protest signs? Now make them on thin paper and glue them to underpasses and street poles and construction walls and backs of street signs and boarded up windows. Keep your message going. Do some street art.

Dragging today after a very late night ER visit with hubs who got a nasty gash from a glass he knocked over. Fun surprise: a former student of his was one of the nurses who cleaned his wound before the doctor stitched him up.

Monday I was excited to see native bees visiting flowers. 🐝Then we had a fierce overnight storm and a large temp drop. No bees seen Tuesday. Will they be okay? 😰 Is their fluff any help in our schizophrenic spring temps?

Apparently there’s a reaction to opioid medications called a “pseudo allergy.” That is, you don’t immediately experience anaphylaxis. But you might have hives ✔️ very low blood pressure ✔️ hot flashes ✔️ weird sensations in the mouth ✔️

Three days post op and I discovered a red rash across my torso, including near my incisions. My first thought was measles caught in the hospital. It’s a drug allergy and hives, but damn I hate that this is where things are atm.

You know genuine spring is inching closer when the cats are prowling by the windows, alert to the many returning bird species.

It’s a three cat pileup this afternoon (and miraculously no one’s fighting).

My eyeballs hurt, but I managed to proofread 112 pages of Beckett scholarship today. I need this book project off my desk before facing surgery next week. 🥵
