Take a bow, @wired.com, and keep it coming apnews.com/article/elon...

After career prosecutors refused to file for the warrant. This is nuts.

DOGE implied it had slashed $100,000,000 in diversity trainings at the Agriculture Department. The actual savings was $121,000. @janetimm.bsky.social has the receipts: www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

A list of ProPublica reporters, what they're covering, and how to get in touch via Signal. There are reporters covering USAID, DOGE, State, NIH, CDC, FDA, DOJ, EPA, DOD, DHS, FAA, Medicaid, abortion, HUD, DOT, veterans and ED. www.propublica.org/article/seco...

MUST-WATCH: House GOP leadership refused to allow Rep. Brittany Peterson, who's on maternity leave, to vote remotely, but that didn't stop her. She showed up, not only voted but also spoke out against the GOP budget proposal with Sam, who turned 1 month old today, in her hands.

Transition from day to evening? You mean fall asleep on the couch in my work clothes?

NEW: DOGE quietly deletes the five largest spending cuts it had been celebrating last week. All of them contained errors that wildly over-inflated how much had been saved. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/25/u...

JUST IN: DOJ asks Judge Ali to stay his order from today — which was to enforce a TRO in place since Feb. 13 — because, DOJ says, "the Court’s order requires Defendants to disburse nearly $2 billion dollars by 11:59 PM tomorrow." THEY HAD TO DO SO SINCE FEB. 13, THOUGH!! That's the whole point!

If Trump starts selling US citizenship for $5 million a pop, that opens the floodgates of foreign money in US politics. Putin, Xi Jinping, MBS... Any foreign autocrat or billionaire could buy US citizenship then legally flood our country with money to buy elections.

Having served as a Moscow correspondent in the early days of Putin's reign, this reminds me of how the Kremlin took over its own press pool and made sure that only compliant journalists were given access.

Again, the revenue they are sharing w/ Nazis is money YOU spend on your fave substackers. If you're accepting paid subscriptions on substack— and putting content behind a pay wall—you are inherently asking your readers to share that money w/ Nazis. "You can't read this unless you give Nazis money."

BIG: DC Metro Police decided they had sufficient evidence to arrest sitting GOP Congressman and sent warrant request to USATTY's office. Acting USATTY Martin, who's been explicitly acting as Trump's personal attorney, ignored it. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/big-b...

Today’s news leading up the “least surprising, most alarming” quadrant of the matrix:

Federal workers are being asked to report on colleagues who are involved in after-work groups for LGBTQ employees: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

U.S. Attorneys are not the President’s lawyers. They are the United States’ lawyers. You didn’t pledge an oath to a President, you pledged it to the constitution. This statement alone is reason enough to resign.

Trump is SHUTTING DOWN all 8000 EV chargers at federal facilities These EV chargers were already bought, paid for with our tax dollars, installed, and operational THIS is what real government waste looks like And what does Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, think of this?

New in PN: Despite the hype, DOGE hasn't found a shred of fraud "With nothing to show for its efforts to find actual fraud, it has become clear that DOGE is the enforcement arm of a Trump administration that has no interest in working with Congress to implement its policy priorities."

At the same time as Meta abandons fact-checking in the U.S., the company is revamping a program that has paid bonuses to creators for content based on views and engagement, potentially pouring accelerant on the kind of false posts it once policed. New, @craigsilverman.bsky.social @propublica.org

Something that wasn't brought to my attention until after publication is that GlomarResponder also made a lot of posts that appear to praise and defend Adolf Hitler.

Twice as much funding goes to diseases that disproportionally affect men compared to those that mainly impact women. So … no?

Literally extortion

Big protest coming to Stonewall National Monument in just an hour or two. If you are in the area, get down there, be active, show your disapproval of the removal of transgender people from all online websites for the Stonewall National Monument page!

200 million dollars of waste.

“That is why Trumpists are so focused on “ending DEI” in the federal workforce. They see anti-discrimination and inclusion as a ladder of upward mobility for people they do not believe should have one.”

I think the most wrong I have ever been as a political scientist was when I said in a public forum in 2020 that there would not be political violence in the US (Jan 6 was 2 mos later). Tonight’s purges are a clear precursor to more future such violence. This is textbook authoritarian abuse stuff.

CSPAN Caller from West Virginia: I’m a diabetic and I’m on Medicare. When Biden was in there, my insulin was $6 for a 28 day supply. I just went to CVS, it went back up to $80…

Pay attention to this. Replacing JAGs with loyalists enables whatever orders Trump and Hegseth issue to be interpreted as lawful.

Agree. In some ways that's even more chilling than firing the four stars. It's what you do when you're planning to break the law: you get rid of any lawyers who might try to slow you down

This is so many words to say Trump fired the chairman of the joint chiefs because he’s black www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

My organization has an excess of hand sanitizer bought during the pandemic that we are now having a hard time re-homing. Some of it is “expired.” But we have gallons and gallons (and gallons!), and I am still finding hoping to find a beneficial use. Anyone have any ideas about who would take it?

On February 19, thousands of higher ed workers took to the streets to tell the Trump administration "Hands off our healthcare, research, and jobs!" On Tuesday, we’re taking that same energy directly to D.C. labor4highered.org/#register

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

Again, on what damn authority?

REVEALED: we identified the operator of an overtly racist X account, "GlomarResponder," as ICE Assistant Chief Counsel James Rodden, based on an overwhelming number of biographical details matched through publicly available documents, other social media activity, and courtroom observation.

DEI is the most popular thing in this list lmao

Putin is not popular

The UAW Women’s Department honors Katherine Johnson for Black History Month. A brilliant NASA mathematician, her calculations were crucial to space missions. NASA recognized her as one of the first African American women scientists. #BlackHistoryMonth @uaw.org

NEW: Georgia’s governor promotes his Medicaid work requirement as a national model for reform. Yet the program has cost taxpayers $86M, three-quarters of which has gone to consultants, and enrolled less than 3% of the quarter-million Georgians eligible.

Out of the 12,000 civil rights complaints the Education Department has put on hold since Trump took office: • 6,000 relate to mistreatment of disabled students • 1,000 are specific to sexual harassment/violence • 3,200 pertain to racial discrimination

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are putting your Social Security checks at risk.

FDA staff reviewing Musk’s Neuralink were included in DOGE employee firings, sources say www.reuters.com/world/us/fda... @reuters.com 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: CanadaHealthwatch.ca/newsletter

Five employees at the JFK Library in Boston were laid off today in connection with a Trump administration overhaul of federal workers. "Without them, we are unable to stay open," a source tells @gbhnews.bsky.social. "It has been chaotic and we are seeking clarity."
